Hi all,

When field stripping my 39-2, the slide latch is really difficult to push out... does anyone have this problem, or some advice for me?

Thanks - Glen

Are you lining up the notches on the slide and frame? I've pushed the pin with a pointy ball point pen (cap on) to slide it out.

yeah - I'm sure I'm lining it up right... I've had it out, but I would expect it to pop out easier.

If you're using a ball point pen cap, then maybe I'm expecting too much? Seems like I should be able to pop it out with my finger, or thumb.

Some latches are harder than others to push out. They usually loosen up after they have been taken apart several times. I use a small wooden dowel to push out the really tight ones.

I've got one 39-2's release that comes out pretty easily, another is a real pain...

My old 639 still needs a little persuasion to get out. Maybe I'll apply a little Tetra to the post the next time...5 years or so.

Some pistols require a little extra effort to get the slide stop started out of the frame. In those cases I've used the edge of the workbench, butt of a screwdriver or a small round block of wood (kid's toy block).

Once you get it out, before reassembling the gun put a very light coat of grease on the shaft. This will help with disassembly next time.

On my Model 59 (same breakdown), I use the hard end of a ball-point pen. Of course, it's easier if you have a pen with a flat top!

I just use a small block of wood. If that's not handy, I use a quarter.
