Help needed on a model 59 mag

I bought three mags today and was told these mags were for a model 59. In the picture the magazine on the right is the new one I bought. The mags are basically identical. The only majour difference is on the front of the mag ( circled in red ) and that stops the mag from going in the gun. Does anyone know what model this mag would be for and if the mag would still work if I had that removed.

A 3rd gen magazine?

IIRC the dimples were put on 40XX series mags to keep anyone from trying to load a 40 cal. mag in a 9mm. You may have a 40xx. Is it marked with a caliber? if it is marked 9mm then
I think you could also have a 3rd generation 9mm magazine x9xx, but your model 59 is a first gen. pistol.

The magazine with the "bump" on it is for .40 S&W caliber pistols. It will load and carry 9mm ammo, but I have never tried to remove the "bump". I have 2 of the magazines for the S&W 4006 pistols I received in a trade, but no gun yet to use them in. Perhaps someone wiser than I can help you further. The only thing stamped on the boot of the mag is S & W.
