I'm brand new here, so if I'm kind of green on terms, forgive me.
I just found my grandfather's S&W 32 Caliber pistol at my father's house. My grand-dad died in 1967, so I know the gun is older than that. SN on the bottom of the grip is 628936. Pistol is nickel plated - 3 inch barrel. I tried to upload a photo, but haven't been able to yet. Any help from you good folks would be appreciated. I will get a photo uploaded if that will help.

Thanks.

Sounds like a .32 Hand Ejector (Postwar). Production was 1946 to 1960. Serial number range was 536685 to 712953.

I will guess that your revolver was shipped from the factory in the late 1950s.

Your S&W can be fired using .32 S&W Short ammunition, .32 S&W Long ammunition, or .32 ACP ammunition. All three will work in your grandfather's gun.

Many shooter (myself included) use the more-common .32 ACP (auto) ammo in our .32's, even though the guns were not originally intended for this round.

Thanks guys. I was guessing maybe late 50's as a date of mfg. I haven't been able to talk my 85 year old father out of the gun yet, although he just has it put up for safekeeping, the gun hasn't been fired in probably 35 + years. I'm the only child, so if I outlive my dad, I'll wind up with it, but I'd rather have my dear old dad... maybe one day I can talk him out of while he's still around. Thanks again.
