help please 5946

i have a 5946 semi auto , every third gen i own when i pull the trigger back the hammer moves all of my third gems are DA/SA the 5946 is my only DAO , when i pull the trigger back on my 5946 the hammer does not move it will only move if i pull the slide back and charge the pistol ... is this normal ? its a new old stock purchase and my first interaction with a DAO semi ..

That is normal for DAO 3rd generation S&W autos. Their hammers are staged for a shorter DA pull. A draw back is that you can not quickly snap the hammer again after you get a missfire. A more important advantage with double stack frame 3rd generation autos is the DAO autos have a shorter trigger reach than traditional DA/SA autos have for their first shot.

There was one odd ball exception. I only mention it because if I don't someone is going to point out the they were not all that way.

The Gen3 DAO models are great shooters and my choice for EDC even though I have more TDA models than DAO models in the safe.

I have a 5943, same gun except for frame material and I'm SURE the trigger moves the hammer in DA. I'll check and get back.
