sunny fla.
found a nice nickel j-frame at my local gun shop the other day but have no idea if its a good buy. its a mod-37 no dash serial # 13754 its 98% and has box and papers. my ? is, is this a rare j what yr was it made. and is $350 a good deal? thank you very much Nick sunny fla.

the serial number would put it at 1952 production. you say it's a model 37. how do you know that? if that serial is correct that would make it a pre-model 37 and would not have the model number stamped. take the grip panels off and count the sideplate screws on the right side for starters. actually a photo would be best.

for a pre 37 the SCSW3 lists a price of 425 for excellent condition.

It sounds to be a pretty good deal. If the SN is the full number from the bottom of the grip frame it is an early one, from the early 1950s. If it is stamped MOD 37 it is from after 1957. Check for the full SN (all numbers and letters) and we can tell you a ship date.

yea i didn't see anything but the # under mod37. in other words it reads mod 37 then that # i posted. i may go to the shop and snap some pics. i also check the full # and letters on the butt.

great. well then get the number on the butt as murphydog suggested. that number you gave would be a production number of some type and not the serial.

ok guys called the shop and on the butt of the gun its # is J850220 hope this helps

1981 production. price listed is 375 for excellent and even 300 for very good if you goofed on the condition. keep in mind the catalog is several years old.
