I bought a used 686+ that needed some TLC. When I got the grips off it had ton of dried up lube inside the grip, and what I'll describe as a not very smooth action. After getting the side plate off there was a good amount of dried lubricant in side the internals. Looked like someone subscribed to the spray it down regularly through the hammer and trigger openings with lubricant theory.
I had to fully disassemble the internals, including the internal lock. I've done this on many a time, usually once on used guns to fully clean them, but typically don't mess with the internal lock. This time I pulled the lock out also as it was caked with dried up lubricant.
That's where I'm running into trouble on the reassembly. I can not get the rear of the lock flag to sit flush with the frame. I've got the leg of the spring down in the notch of the frame, so that's not holding it up, but it's not sitting flush and its causing the gun to not function when reassembled. I thought I had really messed something up until I realized that taking the flag out returned the gun to being fully functional.
Anyone have any good videos or write ups on re-installing the flag? I feel I'm missing something simple. I've. Thumbed through the Kuhnhausen book, but didn't find anything relevant. Found one video on YouTube, but it showed exactly what I was already doing.
