Help! S&W Model 27-8 Eight Shot

Forum,

I just received this response from Earl Minot of "Lew Horton Distributing" regarding my revolver. Any thoughts?

Hello Darryl!

Sorry, but RCM0038 never came through Lew Horton’s.

Those are awesome guns!

Go re-read your serial number

It should be RMC0038

His letter from Lew Horton says RCM0038. Your serial number is RMC 0038. One of you has transposed the letters MC to CM.

I am pretty sure that I gave him the correct serial number but I will have to double check when I get back to work on Monday.

New Pictures

I took a few pictures that are much better than the ones I posted earlier.

Each CRM was shipped in an aluminum PC case, but there was an envelope that had a certificate to be filled out by the seller to the buyer. This is my only copy left.

There were only 250 each of the blues, and only 100 each of the nickels.

Don't sweat damage to the case.Nothing special-just a cheap Chinese import. You probably got a bargain, even with it not considered.
These are nice guns.I had a blued 5 incher.

I had never heard of this model until I was reading this thread yesterday. This afternoon I was checking over my list of firearms dealers, up here in Canada, and right there in front of me was a 5" nickel 27-8, in excellent condition. I asked for the serial number and sure enough, RMC0070. It doesn't have the case or paper work, and isn't a safe queen. It should be here in a week or so.

Brian

Congratulations Brian,

Please post pictures of you 27-8 once you get it in! :D

Letter from Lew Horton

Forum,

I had mistyped the serial number when I sent my email requesting information on my S&W model 27-8. Below are copied of the information that Earl Minot from Lew Horton was kind enough to send me.
One is the letter talking about the revolver and the other is an ad from 2007 when Lew Horton was selling these.
I would like to say "Thank You" to all of you for your help and information.
Now I need to get this thing to the range and see what she can do! ;)

Best Regards,
Darryl

A quick google search for brief case lock assemblies turns up several similar looking locks, not sure which one you have a close at the lock assy. may provide a vendor.

Thanks Silentflyer,

That is a great idea, and it would made it look much nicer that it looks now!
And the installation looks as it would be very fast and easy. :D

Saw one of those ''cheap Chinese made'' aluminum S&W PC

cases sell for $160 on Gun Broker recently

Great gun. Original stocks, as was the 3 1/2" shown earlier. Targets on the 5"; magnas on the 3 1/2". Think all the nickels received rosewood.

Think the default setting on the cases was all zeros, though they may have been changed by the purchaser.

PM me a mailing address or PO box if you will. I have a set of those stocks to send you. Allow the forum to help make it look better. They were not numbered to the gun. We'll need a new picture when you get them, though. Great to be a member here.

Got it!

The OP's gun, the 3.5-inch, nickel, Model 27-8 Registered Magnum was product code 170308. That was in the Lew Horton letter.

Model 27-8 Registered Magnum, c. 2007, product code, known s/n prefix
3.5-inch, nickel .......... 170308 ............... RMCxxxx
5-inch, nickel ............. 170309 ............... RMDxxxx
3.5-inch, blue ............ 170271 ............... REMxxxx
5-inch, blue ............... 170272 ............... RTDxxxx

Regarding the Performance Center cases, it is all too easy to inadvertently change the combination and therefore not be able to open it.

Here's another 27-8 3.5" that made it across the pond - s/n REM0088. The deep blueing and rosewood magna grips make for a great colour combination as seen here.
