HELP…..Spectrum 🤬

We have fiber optic and they told us to cancel their tier choices and go to streaming YouTube TV. Surprised me since it would save us money and diminish their revenue. Surprising advice from a cable provider.

We have had Charter/Spectrum for decades, until recently they were the only full provider (net and cable) in our area. Tds is now here and offering competitive options but they really rode the struggle bus getting in into neighborhoods and set up. So until all their bugs work out I have just remained with Spectrum as their internet has been just fine. I hate how the tv portion is always packaged but also understand they pay fees to others so throw the blame on this recent bs to both them and Disney. I dont even watch Espn anymore (can’t stand obnoxious on air personalities) and just use them for tennis and college hoops. But in the scheme of things with the expense to have any tv package it just isnt worth it anymore. We’ve been talking about cutting cable completely and just keeping their internet. And then we have Netflix and Prime for any viewing options; especially as we both read more than watch tv these days anyway.

I'm not fond of Spectrum and have a "great dislike" for what Disney Corporation has become.

In this squabble I choose Spectrum as the lesser of two evils, and hope the outcome leaves Disney financially wounded.

Best case scenario IMO is everyone learns that we don't need either one........and find find better alternatives.

I have heard that YouTube TV will get you access, and you get a 21 day free trial. If I hadn’t dumped Charter cable for DirecTV Stream about 8 months ago, I would have spent all day Friday fixing it . . .

What do you think of DirecTV Stream? Reviews say it is the most like cable tv experience. And the remote has a number pad. My current streamer uses firestick, and it has virtually no functionality.

I've been waiting for NFL season to see what I can get on Prime and youtube before getting off local service.

I use Altafiber/Fioptics from Cincinnati Bell. Excellent year round service. Plus I have several streaming accounts.

As to Disney...while I hold Disney Corporate in disdain they are not going away. They own:

Networks and production companies;
ABC
ESPN (80% stake)
Marvel
Lucasfilm
A&E (50% equity holding with Hearst Corporation)
The History Channel (50% equity holding with Hearst Corporation)
Lifetime (50% equity holding with Hearst Corporation)
Pixar
and dozens of movie franchises.

Not to mention Hulu and FX (Justified) which is also blacked out along with ESPN right now. Luckily Justified wrapped up for now, even though it wasn't that good this time IMO, but that is another current thread.

A few years ago my son and wife talked me into cutting the cable from spectrum. Almost 200.00 a month just to watch HD tv. We already had Windstream phone and internet. Just upgraded to a digital internet and have or had Firesticks on all TVs. One went bad and we are trying the Roku on one TV. A few weeks ago one TV died. Holy cow anther set of problems. Bought a new smart TV. but have fixed it now as to where we dont have to have a firestick or roku on it. But we left Spectrum and have been very pleased with the services we use to stream everything. My take on the matter is CUT the cable use streaming APPs for tv and antenna for local channels. Saved a lot of money and I am happy with TV now.

This is what drives me totally batsnot crazy about this forum . . .

Why would you post this? It’s like posting “We went to see the Barbie movie last week . . . “

To point out the path less traveled by.
Every show seen could have been time spent with your kids, pets, at the range or reloading bench.
"Quiet, you're talking over the good part" has been replaced by intelligent discourse.
The body does need down time. That might be beer and brats fireside, both of which I made.
Cable provider drama might not be the crisis some make it out to be.

I have no choice but Spectrum unless I go satellite and my neighbors with dish and direct tv both say they’re down as much as it’s up. Spectrum just went up $25 a month and then lost 3-4 of the channels I watch the most. I’d go satellite but then I’d have to pay about $75/month for internet in the country.nim pretty much screwed

My daughter cancelled Spectrum when she got Google fiber. She called and told them that she was cancelling. The woman on the phone tried to retain her with all sorts of offers, but my daughter told her to cancel.

What the women didn't tell her was that Spectrum had changed their policy and if you cancel during your billing cycle, even on the first day, they will charge you for the entire month. Since she cancelled on the first day of a new cycle, Spectrum charged her for the whole month.

The woman also told my daughter where to return the equipment and never mentioned that my daughter should keep the equipment to the end of the cycle.

My daughter is disputing the bill and all Spectrum offered was to take $40.00 off the bill.

So, if you are going to cancel, make sure you do it at the end of the billing cycle.

I have Spectrum for TV, content with it as I don't watch ESPN or the other Disney owned channels. Just dumped AT&T internet service and added Spectrum internet/wifi to my Spectrum TV line and did a self-install, everything went fine.
