I have had a 686 for just a few weeks and shot just 300 rounds thru it. This weekend I noticed the rear sight blade was loose.

While cleaning/polishing my 686 I must have inadvertly pushed the rear sight into the cardboard on top of the cleaning table.

The end result is the blade on the adjstable sight is loose and can be wiggled slightly forward and aft. There is no left/right movement in the blade.

So is there a way to tighten the rear sight blade (forward/aft) using the windage screw/nut?

Thanks for any advice or instruction, Paul

Not that I know of. The windage adjustment screw is used to move the rear sight blade either to the left or right in its base, to alter the point of impact of your bullet.

Most S&W rear sight blades do move slightly forward and back.
Some are worse then others, but it doesn't have any effect on shooting.

There's really no way to tighten the fit, since to remove the blade you have to break the windage screw to allow removing the blade, then you have to have a new sight kit with a new windage screw and the tiny nut that is riveted on the other end of the screw.

This is one of those "Bob, pay the two dollars" type things where you're better to just leave well enough alone.
It has no adverse affect on shooting.
