Help to identify

Dears,

i'm trying to figure out what model this 357 6" barrel this revolver is.

All help is very welcome

That’s a 6” nickel Model 19 (.357 Combat Magnum). Swing the cylinder open and you’ll see the designation stamped in the frame cut.

I don’t see a barrel pin and they cylinder chambers don’t appear recessed, so I’d guess it’s a Model 19-5. If I’m correct, the marking will read “MOD 19-5” or simply “19-5”.

Are they any good?
I have the oppertunity to purchase it, but not sure if they are worth any money.

They’re great guns! Previous S&W .357’s were built on the larger N frame. Bill Jordon pushed for a lighter gun that was easier to carry and S&W came up with the Combat Magnum on a slightly reinforced K frame. They’re not really suitable for a steady diet of .357 magnum cartridges. Occasional magnums are fine (avoid bullets lighter than 125 grains) and shoot mostly .38 specials.

The photos aren’t great and it could also be a Model 66 (.357 Combat Magnum Stainless). If so, it’s probably a model 66-2.

In nice shape, it’s worth around $600 here in Michigan. Those with a 2-1/2” barrel command higher prices and make a fine carry gun.

I was able to get some more pictures, maybe now it will be clear what type is is.

Those photos are better. It’s the stainless steel version, a Model 66 (probably 66-2). Stainless guns of that era had triggers and hammers that were flash chromed. Model 19’s (Carbon steel guns) had case colored triggers and hammers.
