HELP - TRIGGER RESET PROBLEM

Doing a favor for retired federal agent. Model 15-3 snub. Trigger would not reset. Opened, cleaned, oiled, factory rebound spring looked ok, not cut. Retensioned hand torsion spring and visually inspected all around. Replaced main spring with a SW factory part. Reassembled except sideplate. Functions perfectly. When I put on the hammer block and sideplate, reset issue comes back. If I put on side plate without hammer block, no issue. It is the last fit to flush that makes the issue arise. Help is appreciated.

Place hammer block over the pin on the rebound block. position the hammer block in front of the hammer.

Now, slide the block up as far as it will go. While the block is in that position, place side cover on.

Should not bind if done this way.

I would suggest laying a straight edge on the sideplate. From what you're describing it sounds like the sideplate is binding up the hammer block. If the sideplate has been bent slightly by a drop or someone trying to pry it off, you could be seeing the result. The fix would be both easy and a bit nerve racking, in that you place it on some soft pine and tap it with a plastic faced hammer to straighten it. BTW, it will probably take a pretty good wack to staighten it, however it's best to work up from a tap.

I think the sideplate and trigger had started to have a bit of rust build up so I buffed them. Also replaced rebound spring with gorilla factory (18 lb.?) and made sure sideplate fit on the block as 500 Mag suggested. Tapped on with rubber mallet. 150 trigger pulls and no bind. Beers all around on me.
