Help with 10-7

Need help with a 10-7 serial# 3D86778. The book don't mention dates for this pistol. Can anyone tell me when it was shipped.

Probably 1977. The only one I know to tell you when it was shipped would be Historian Roy Jinks. He will investigate the gun for you for $50.00 and issue a letter telling you what the S&W factory has in the files. Well worth the $50.

According to the 3rd edition, p399, 2D...... ended in 1978 and 4D........ began in 1979.
So, not sure about 3D, but late 70's is pretty certain.

The 1978 serial numbers on p. 399 of the SCSW 3d are in error.
It should read 2D80001 - 3D99999. According to Roy all the 3D guns date from 1978.

No mention in the OP of barrel length. Australian police carried blued 3" M10-7s. See picture below, taken from a tv police drama.
