Help with 31-1 date of manufacture

My father bought a Model 31-1 from a small hardware store here years ago. I have the original box with a price on it - $75.95! LOL!

I can't seem to find the serial # in my3rd Edition Standard Catalog. The number is 7925XX. I might be looking in the wrong place in the catalog.

Any help with the date of manufacture would be appreciated.

My 31-1, number 743178 shipped in Sept. 1964.

Keeping in mind that they were not shipped in serial number order, I just picked up a 2 inch blue 31-1 on Sat. serial # 817803 that shipped March 1969.

Given all the variables . . . including declining market demand of the .32 S&W Long caliber in the post-WWII era . . . and utilizing known ship dates listed above plus several from my files . . . if I were to wager on when 7925XX shipped, I'd place my bet on March 1968.

The 31-1 is one of my favorites . . . hope you enjoy yours,

Model 31-1's

I have a 3" 31-1 with Serial 81973X and a 2" 31-1 with "H" prefix, H9696X. They're peas in a pod so far as features are concerned, pinned barrels, walnut non-diamond stocks, etc. Excellent shooters.

Thanks for the information. My father's house was robbed when he was out but his only two handguns were left on his bed. This one and his Colt 1911. The sheriff seems to think they forgot them in their haste to leave with his car.

I'm glad they left them for whatever reason!



I'm not much of a photographer but here is a feeble attempt.
The tag on the box has $75.95 written on it!
