Picked up a 410 missing the magazine release button and spring. Two questions:

1. If ordering parts from Nurich is the 410 the "same" gun as 4006? I want to order the right parts. Not a lot $$$, but I'd hate to waste the time reordering.

2. Are there any YouTube videos on how to take down the frame of the 410?

On disassembling my 3rd gens, and on a vid of taking down the frame of a 4006, there is a small pin and spring one must depress (alongside/under the mag release button) to remove the mag release button. There is the hole for the release, but either over or under it is another smaller "hole" for the pin to depress. I don't see the smaller hole on my 410 so I'm wondering if it is different?

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

The mag catch on the "Value Series" model 410 is different. The parts are plastic. (The sights, guide rod, and disconnector are also plastic on this model)
The catch has a button that "snaps" on the top of the stem, and a unique spring that fits under the button. There is no spring and plunger cavity alongside the button like the other pistols. If you take a look at Numrich, there is a photo of this contraption. (link below)

Not sure of a source for these mag release assemblies. You could contact S&W Parts Dept to see if they have any available. 1-800-331-0852

The S&W part numbers are: 23969-mag catch, 23909-mag catch nut(button) and 23901-mag catch spring.

I've never tried to retrofit an original metal mag release and button into one of these models that don't have a plunger lock for the button. You could possibly use the spring from the 410, but you would need to figure out how to capture the metal button after it was installed (screwed on). Perhaps peening the mag catch button to the stem would be an option. (or use of an epoxy compound, like JB Weld to capture the button)
The other option would be to have a shop replicate the spring cavity in the 410 by machining the necessary cavity alongside the existing hole, like the other 3rd gen models.

As far as disassembly of the gun is concerned, if you are familiar with third generation pistols, you'll have no problems at all.

Many thanks for your help. Brownells has the button and spring and I've ordered them, so hopefully the gun will be reliably operational in a week or so when they ship the part. (Now for a reduced power hammer spring from Wolffs and she'll be set up just fine. And while I'm tempted to look for a stainless recoil rod, I've never really heard/seen any failures with the plastic rod. I might consider a new front sight, but only if I decide this will be a carry piece.)

Again, you help is much appreciated.
