Help With 4586?

I bought a very clean 4586 recently, and replaced the magazine springs and recoil spring.

I had a couple of FTF at the range this morning, and the primer seemed to have a light strike mark on them. They were reloads, and I fed them back through the gun and they fired OK.

I'd like to replace the firing pin spring....am comfortable doing it with a 1911 or Glock, but wonder how easy it would be for me to do it on my S&W, or take it to a gunsmith......who's 90 miles away.

George.....its easy.

Depress firing pin safety and hold
Depress firing pin and release fp safety

Need a 1/16 punch

Ejection side of slide using a non maring pusher begin to push on the slide insert.

At a certain point it will be up against the fp.

Use the punch to depress the fp a bit more.

Keep pushing out the firing pin retainer (slide insert)

There will be a detent and spring on the non ejection side of the body as more is exposed.

Make sure to clean out the firing pin channel well. If the two spring loaded safety detents are gritty or dirty....u will need to flush them clean too.
