I was in a lgs today. They had a 36-1 P&R 3" bbl. SN 761589. Condition is 99%, The faintest of a turn line. It has been fired by looking at the cylinder, but you cannot tell from the recoil shield. No diamond grips. Could not grab a pic. World class bluing

Probably before 1969 ?

No box

You agree with the year? value?

I have basically the same gun. It has a 3" bbl, square butt grip frame with a bull barrel. My wife and I just shot it about 3 weeks ago. What makes this revolver so special is it belonged to my wife's father who died before I ever met her - so I never knew him. Shoots like a bigger framed gun. I have seen similar ones priced from $550 - $700 depending on condition and completeness of the package.

Did you leave it in the shop?

Based on others in the database it likely shipped in spring 1969.
It's high in the serial range of the first Chiefs Special serial series,
which ended at 786544 in 1969.

I'm betting it had the second style no-diamond magnas with the
shorter, narrower checkering pattern, which stayed till S&W quit
using magna stocks.

Did it have a round or square butt?

Thanks for sharing the serial number. I've added it to the database.

Square butt I do believe. Non diamond magnas.

Yes I left it at the shop.
