I have a 34-1 RB #M85xx from probably 1969-70. it is a blue 2" gun. orig owner thought these were orig. grips. as you can see there is no serial in the rh grip, only 338 in marker pen. they fit perfectly, and seem to be from the correct era. could they be the orig. grips? I know never say never with S&W. Thanks

They are the correct style, but in that era they would have been stamped with the digits of the SN, and (I think) they would have had the blued stock washers. However, as Jared said, if they fit I wouldn't be too worried.

While we are in the subject of J frame grips.

Can anyone tell me what these are? They were listed as "factory Smith & Wesson," look maybe like Altamont?

Thank all, I'm using them for sure. just curious and trying to learn here. I would have thought they would be numbered. hard telling what the 338 on the rh grip stands for??

Those are S&W "Magna's" and they, along with the addition of a Tyler-T grip make for a fantastic grip combo. Best yet, other than making the shooting experience actually comfortable with even +P loads.... is you don't give up anything in the conceal-ability department! It's like the old cliche, "Eating your cake and having it too!" "J" frames are made to be concealed carried and that's their biggest allure along with their reliability and a certain amount of sexiness; at least to me it is.
This is becoming my CCW workhorse. Going shooting again next weekend to put another 100 rounds thru her to stay sharp...
