A friend asked me for help on these two handguns, a broom handle Mauser and a Luger (specific ID and an approximate value). I told him I didn't know much about them but had online contacts that would (cue you guys knowledgeable about such things). Below are the pics he sent me, let me know what you think.
First the Luger:

Both look decent from these pics though it would be better if they were a bit sharper. I'm sure some of the real experts can give you more info. The S/42 is a Mauser made Luger. Matching numbers can make a big difference in value to both of these guns.

The Luger appears to be one of the rebuilt "VoPo" types that were imported in the 1990's. The C96 looks almost too nice to be true, so possibly refinished, but if so really well done.

Agreed...It looks very much like the East german re-issues that they used from WW2 leftovers...The grips also give it away. I would imagine the Luger would be in the $1500 range if it looks as good as it does in the pics...Basically, a Russian re-work.

I wondered about a refinish, too - especially on the 96. But if so they didn't wash out the markings.
Thanks for the replies thus far. We'll see who else chimes in. Also will ask my friend about any history he knows ows about either of them. I'm sure they were his dad's, or maybe even a grandad.

Edit: my friend says he bought these at an estate sale near his house. Said the lady was selling her dad's collection of German/WW2 stuff- helmets, these guns, model tanks of the era, etc.. I don't know what he paid for them. He says the numbers match on the Luger but not on the Mauser 96.
