HELP with finding the right M&P 9mm...

In the past few weeks I have learned to love my M&Ps, but, I have found a lnib S&W 3914 for $275. I think I shall carry it and use it for a car gun than have to surrender it to the PD if it was used in sd. It shoots good has a 8 round mag and was cheap.

Nice to have a bunch to choose from but the thing I keep coming back to is this. I have heard/read that if you ever have to pull and fire your ccw it may/may not get appropriated by the police and you may/may not ever get it back. With that in mind, does it make sense to carry a $700-$1000 gun or are you better off with a $300-$500 gun?

I have always found this reasoning curious, and a bit short-sighted. If I actually pull out my handgun and shoot somebody with it (or just shoot at them), confiscation of the weapon doesn't even register on my list of "things to consider after shooting somebody". The emotional trauma of the situation, and/or the consequences of using the weapon, will be intense. I may immediately need the (costly) services of a lawyer to ensure that I don't spend several years (or more) of my can't-get-it-back life behind bars. I might be facing ruin via civil liability -- and again the large cost to defend myself. And I might, MIGHT be dealing with my own injuries or the injuries/death of somebody close to me.

I can get another M&P9 or M&P9c so long as I have $500. I've not been through the experience I've just described, but right now, losing a $500 polymer-framed, widely-available, inexpensive gun doesn't rate. Even if the gun were expensive, I still don't think it would matter to me.
