Help with id

I picked up a .38 spl at a pawn shop. Can someone please tell me the age or any other information? It is a K frame, 2" barrel. The barrel is pinned and has Smith and Wesson on the first line, the second line reads 38 s.&w. spc.ctg. The serial number on the butt is C381385. Inside and on the crane it reads 77418.

The number inside the crane is a reference number used for assembly and is irrelevant to identifying what you have. It is most likely a Military & Police model from around 1956, but the C prefixed serial numbers were used on a number of different variants. How about posting a photo?
