Hello! I have an older model S&W and will greatly appreciate any information that you may possess. It is a Top-Break 5 shot cylinder with a 5 inch barrel. Welcome to the forum, Don. Although you did not specify, I assume your revolver is chambered in .38 S&W. If so, what you have is a .38 Safety Hammerless 3rd Model. This variation was manufactured from 1890 - 1898 and the serial number range was 42484 - 116002. Changes made for the 3rd Model include the cross pin in the trigger guard to stop any forward movement of the trigger, and a modification to the barrel catch.
