Good day!
Not new here, but I don't post much.
Mostly just read.

Looking for any info I can get on a 12" barreled Performance Center M629 44Mag.
Ran into one at a LGS today. I've never seen a 12" on a 44 mag, only a few X frames. Mainly the 460's.

Guy claims they only made 200 of them.
It looks as though it MAY be UNFIRED, with a nominal turn ring.
Comes with all paperwork, PC soft case (black, gold embroidered), plain black nylon sling, and a large Wilson Combat adjustable sight.
Asking $1200.
Almost walked out with it, I am still pondering why I did not.

I did a quick "Google", but came up empty.
I presume the WC Adj. sight to be included from a separate purchase, as opposed to being included by S&W PC.

Anybody know anything about these 12" PC 629's ??
Production numbers, dates?
Commonality?
Opinion on price?

Anything you can add may be helpful.
I am considering going back Tuesday.

Sorry, I DID NOT snap any pics!

Thanx for your time!

I have seen 10" model 29 but not 12"

Does it come with a bipod?

No, it does not come with a bipod.

It is a "tapered" PC barrel, and has no pic rail top or bottom.
Very similar to the barrel on the "currently displayed" 500's, on their website.

I have never seen or heard of with 12" or NOT having the pic rail. Man it sure sounds awesome. Sure would like to see a pic. Sounds like a "must have" to me. Wow..........Try to get a pic at least! Regards Ernie

The 12 inch 629-5 was a limited run by the PC called the Performance Center Extreme - I believe the 200 number is correct. The Wilson rear sight was shipped with the gun. The serial prefix should be EMKxxxx. The price was very fair.

Thanks for the info guys.
You are right on the money Bob!

I called S&W this morning. "Frank" was MOST helpful.
It is as Bob states.....
P.C. special run for Lew Horton.
Product code 170157
Made in year 2000 only, believes production to be 200 revolvers (minimum special order).
Shipped with Wilson Adj Sight, no bipod.

A quick search led to a personal web page of apparently an owner of one of these, with this information.....

"S&W 629-5 The Extreme Hunter from the Performance Center .44 magnum 12" barrel. Product code 170157.

This site is for collecting as much info about these awesome handguns as possible, especially serial numbers. Email me with any info you have - [email protected]

According to the Standard Catalog of S&W 2nd Edition:
S&W Model 629-5 The Extreme Hunter from the Performance Center .44 magnum 12" barrel. Product code 170157, It has a six-shot fluted cylinder with Wilson rubber combat grips on a round butt frame complete with Uncle Mikes swivels and sling. Weight is 65 ounces and overall length is 17.75 inches. Front sight is a dovetailed .430 Patridge with Wilson Silhouette rear sight. It has a glass bead stainless steel finish. It was sold with a Weller 21 inch Gun Rug and distributed by Lew Horton, April 2000. It is the longest barrel length on a modern S&W handgun.

My guns rear sight is marked Wilson Combat. And the grips are Hogue Monogrips.

Lew Horton said they ordered 200 and they are sold out. The serial numbers were from 1-200.

Looks like I need to grab this thing, If I can.
At the gun show I was "curious" ..... now I am "WANTING".

Wish me luck.

Sweet sixgun,:D
I've seen photos of one that a member has. Pretty sure its in the "629 club" thread. I'd be a happy camper if I had one. Would love to spend a day working up loads and cronographing them. Please give us a range report, when you get the time. I think your going to be impressed with that one. Congrats on a great find!

Thanx, I was pleased!
Ive never seen one, did not even know they existed.
I love surprises!

I expect the muzzle rise will be less with more weight up front.

might be a couple weeks until I get to the range, but I will.
Look forward to it!
This weekend will be spent tuning the Triumph.

Reach out and touch someone. ;)
Long distance, the next best thing to being there! :D
Don't know what I'd do with it, but I bet that sucker's accurate!

I am not sure myself, LOL, I am not a hunter!
Maybe I will start.
I just needed to own it.

Don't get your hand to close to the cylinder trying to hold that barrel up!

Actually, does not FEEL as nose heavy as it LOOKS.
I had an 8 3/8" 500 for a while, just plain HEAVIER overall.
Wish I still had it for a side by side.

Yo Trolley,
which edition of SCSW did you get that photo from?
I have the 3rd edition and there is NO photo of this extreme.

thanx!

I wonder if the BLACK revolver on the bottom was a prototype?
Different barrel profile, rails, and blackened stainless.

Only 200 Extremes made, which is minimum order, and they are listed as BEAD BLASTED (as is mine, and the top one in the SCSW photo). No room for "options" with a minimum custom order.

????
