help with selling price 4" 617 no dash

Finally have become serious about selling my no dash 4" 617. It has a few scuff marks in the clear finish on the combat grips, no chips or major gouges. Has been in a holster but shows no major wear. Gun shoots great, I just have too darn many .22 rf handguns & this one gets shot the least. So my question is, what is a fair price? I really don't want to list it at auction, but don't want to give it away either. Any help? Looking for a consensus of some sort.

These are expensive, about $650 or so in my observations. Forum member 5Wire tracks prices of various S & W models and may have a more objective answer for you. Interested to see what others think, and hope this is helpful.

$650 probably is fair, from what I've seen.

You could probably find someone willing to pay quite a bit more than that, $750+, if you wanted to wait a little while.

It will depend greatly on where you sell it too. GB will probably bring you more money than a local sale.

The economy is in the tank, so it all depends on how bad you want to sell it. I've bought 4 of the 617's in the last year, and have never paid more than $525 for any of them. But they are selling (once in a while) on GB for $650+. Find someone that will give it a good home and make them happy....

i just paid 700 from a forum member,box,4 in.,no-lock,target grips,real nice and feel i got a fair deal.a 617 8 3/8,just sold on gb for 955.00,,,what you have is a sought after gun,700 to 800 is the going price i've seen,crazy but true,unless you get lucky

For what it's worth I gave $625 for a no-dash 4" 617 on Gunbroker in December of 2009, and it had some kind of rubber on it, not combat grips. It hurt a little at the time, but I'm still glad I bought it when I did, they don't come around for sale that often.

I would say yours is worth at least $650 with genuine S&W combat grips on it. Possibly more to the right buyer.

I just bought a brand new 617-6, 4", 10-shot, for $715 out the door, at a local gunshop. It came with the Hogue mono-grip.

I would say $700 - $750, higher if you happen to have the box and papers. New 617's with the lock and Hogues are selling for $650+, and I gotta believe most folks would rather have the no dash with factory combats.

The most fired caliber on the ranges I use, is .22LR, by far. Anything 22 caliber is sought after.

The consensus of $650 is a fair price,IMO. For a SIX inch 617 no-dash! The 4 inch will command a premium of at least $100. But that's for a gun in the condition you describe with box,docs and original combat grips. Yours should sell for somewhat less without the aforementioned accessories. ANIB,$850 minimum!

With the orginal combat grips I'd bet you'd do better selling the gun and grips separately.

The no-dash could likely command $650 without the combats anyway. And I hear the combats go for $150.

That's how I'd sell it.

It would be nice to see some pics, but even without that, I would be interested in it up to about $750-775. I think if you list it here, you will have a pretty quick response. That particular model presentation is in pretty high demand.

I agree, if I had the chance, I would probably pay even a little more than its worth just cause I NEVER see them for sale. When I do , I dont have any cash.......

This is a very sought after revolver. Honestly, if I were selling this, I'd list it for $800 to start. Chances are you won't get that. If you do, great. But you can always drop the price, rather than list it lower, have it sold in an hour, and wonder if you asked too little.

Just hypothetical for me, as my no-dash 617 won't be up for sale until after they plant me, and hopefully not then.
