Hi All! I have been wanting to buy a S&W 500, but before I make the final purchase I have a question that I can't seem to find the answer. I see in the 4" version it has and interchangeable break for lead vs jacketed bullets - however the 6.5" inch does not have this. Does this mean that the 6.5" is limited to jacketed rounds only?

I have been debating between the two models - so any additional advice or information regarding these would be helpful. FYI - use case is just for fun, no hunting, just plinking and blowing up watermelons :)

Thanks all!

I had the 6.5" 500 for a bit and shot a fair amount of lead with no problem, nor did I ever come across any info that lead shouldn't be fired in it. It's a great version, perhaps the best all-around one.

I agree with AKMTNRUNNER regarding the use of lead slugs. I used lead almost exclusively with the 6.5" I had, never an issue.

I think I ought to say that I've had a couple 8 3/8" models, a 6.5" PC 500 and the 6.5" half lug which is what I think you have.

The 6.5" half lug kicks significantly harder than the other two I currently have, the original barrel length and the PC. The half lug was much less enjoyable for me. Don
