HELP- WW II 38 M&P - C.T. Co. ??? >>>>>>>>> LETTER Update

i know, i know. it's case tractor company. well, it's a wild ass guess anyway. let us know when you get up off that thirty dollars and get your letter back. lee

Lee,

Case Tractor is not a bad guess. Essential war production of equipment used to build the Alcan Highway, etc., etc. I recall an article describing a John Deere armored tractor being used (briefly) in France during WWI.

I'm perfectly aware of the technical meaning of the word "trolley". I was referring to the customary tendency of many Southerners to refer to such vehicles as "streetcars", although the use of the term was not universal.

The Tennessee Williams play that took place in New Orleans was not called "A Trolley Named Desire"...

That is a neat gun. From our Pre-Victory Model Database I can estimate for you that it was likely shipped from the factory in the September, 1941 time frame.

I don't know what the butt marking is all about, but I would lean towards the Cxxx Trust Company angle as being most likely.

I think you need to spend the $30 for the factory letter so that the idle curiosity the rest of us have about it can be satisfied! ;<)

Charlie,
Close enough!
Letter says Oct 1, 1941 to J.L Galef & Co., NYC. Just like you see it, but the "C.T.Co." is NOT a factory marking. I doubted it would be, since it is upside down to the serial number. So, the letter did not help much.

I have a "Pre-Victory" # 833351, that Roy tells me was shipped in 1941 just before the war. Has lanyard ring, but diamond checkered medallian grips, which Roy says are probably original, (not numbered). Is in 38 S&W, and had been in Australia and returned. 2204 #'s less than yours.

Hey Lee:

Thanks for giving us the update on this one. I still think it is a very interesting piece. Galef was a big NY dealer and importer well into the 1960s and maybe later.

I will add your shipping information to the Database on the Pre-Victory and Victory Models.

Best regards,
