why does the henry rifle bluing, look so bad? to me it looks like someone painted it on with a spray can of cheap paint?

They're made in New York City, I think.

I presume you mean the current repros and spinoffs using the Henry name.

Aren't better repros available from Uberti, etc.? Writer Mike Venturino told me that the Italian repro rifles are often better made than some of the Italian handgun replicas.

I think you can get real Henry replicas with either brass or iron/steel frames, like originals.

My B-I-L had one, gave it to his grandson. This one is a great shooter and the bluing looks pretty good.

I have a new (2 yo) .22 mag that looks fairly good to me, not sure about the painting on...maybe you are looking at a bad lot

I agree with Hudgehog, my three-year old .22 mag looks real good also... it was made in Bayonne, New Jersey.
Maybe you should contact the company, I hear they have excellent customer service.

I think some of them were powder coated. They have an eggshell or rollered on painted look to them.

My Golden Boy has great bluing, the brass is high polished, the wood looks good. A beautiful rifle in all respects. In other words, no complaints whatsoever. Now granted my AR-7 .22LR isn't the prettiest rifle you've ever seen but it's still doesn't look like someone put the coating on with a spray can.

The Henry H001 model .22 rifle has an almost painted on blue, but it is their cheapest gun and not made for it's beauty.

I'd suggest trying one of the Uberti silverboys. I've seen them in pictures, so I honestly don't know if they are zamak or not, like the Henrys. (not to be confused with the B. Tyler Henry designed model 1860 rifle, which Uberti manufactures).

Uberti has a pretty good track record of making some decent firearms.

The Henry's I have seen, when guns were more assessable American made Most buyers are happy as a pig in you know what. looked good to me,,They buy their walnut in Missouri not in Japan....
