This is the gun that completes my collection of S&W-revolvers, from my personal point of view. The accuracy is much better than the first tryout-picture suggest. The DA was just a little bit on the hard side, but after cleaning and greasing it's much better. Recoil is nowhere. What is very tricky on this gun, is the tiny frontsight-width. But I am really happy that the gun shoots very close to the point of aim. I can't say that there is a sideways-deviation. This gun gives me a nice playground for ammo-development and maybe it's worth a post in the Reloading-section. Like I mentioned it before; now I got plenty of time since the collection is completed. No gun-hunting anymore. The focus is now set on reloading and shooting. .....and nobody really believes me.

Looks like a great piece and is cool if it complete's you collection of S&W. Of course I've said similar things only to buy another S&W later on.

I got my 32 cal pistol from my Dad who passed it on to me and it was my Grandfather's gun. It's a Colt Police Positive 32-20 cal in 4 inch barrel.

Wow, my dad gave me this same gun for my birthday in January...

Well, I'd say both those statements aren't quite true...

Now that you have a 3-inch .32 Long, you need a 4-inch Model 31 and/or a Model 16 to go with it.

And no more gun hunting? What's the fun of that?

That's a very sweet looking Model 31. I lucked into mine at fair prices and couldn't resist them either.

IIRC, Lyman used to make a 95gr LSWC-HP mold for the .32 Long that was supposed to be very accurate. The Fiocchi wadcutters are excellent for factory ammo.

I know I don't.

Great little revolver. Unpinned Model too. Didn't know the .32s carried over into the 1980s.

The front sight width is no problem, but the shooter seeing it clearly may be another matter! When I was twenty-something, I liked those narrow front blades. Nowadays....

Anyway, hearty congratulations to Swissman on his nice purchase. Now, the marksmanship... that is another thing!

That Model 31, if it is like any of the others I have seen, should be doing a lot better than that!

Maybe the ammunition is to blame, though .32s are not notably finicky...

s&wchad, you got a new fan!!!

I was very surprised when I heared the big laughing from Swisswife, after she looked over my shoulder at your answer. She totally agree with all the meanies here. Especially with you s&wchad. She told me, that nobody can express it better what she thinks about my "the collection is complete".

With some lonely feelings

To Swissman;

"No gun hunting anymore"

At least you have left yourself an out. That is, some of the best guns are the ones you just stumble across when you are NOT EVEN LOOKING!!

Ha!

Swissman, I don't think anybody commented on your Thun 7.65mm Swiss Luger. That is a fantastic pistol in great condition!
I wish I had one of those.

This saturday was great for me. Swisswife visited some friends and I got the time to do some more testfiring, at the almost empty shootingrange this early afternoon.
First I got some great fun with my incredible accurate Thun 7.65mm Parabellum Swiss Luger, which was just back from the gunsmith. It was necessary to overwork the trigger with original Swiss-army-parts, because the pullweight was defenitly to low and i don't want a "dangerous" gun in my safe. The construction of the 1929 leads to a different triggerpull that depends on the numbers of rounds in the magazine. So i want the pull a bit on the "harder" side that I can always get the first trigger pressure safely.

Then I changed to the Model 31-2 and tried to shoot very concentrated with strong focus on the sight-picture. That tiny fronsight is not easy for me. Really M29since14!! I must confess, that I needed some rounds before the results stayed good. Here some braggin', but I'm really happy with the gun now and I don't care anymore about the toolmark in one of the chambers.

Wow! That's better than I can do with my old Colt 32-20! Those tiny iron sights do hurt, and the dim indoor range doesn't help.

Our range is always crowded these days. Guy said their carry permit classes have tripled in size!

I have a model 31 also and it is very accurate. I love shooting it but the sights are a bit small. enjoy it.

I have found, over more years now than I like to admit, that one can overlook some small imperfections if the gun shoots as well as that Model 31-2. The ammunition and marksman seem to be doing their jobs, too. Nice shooting!
