Hey 1911 fans!!!!

When the inventory becomes available, I will likely be on the hunt for a 1911.... I would like to stay within the $800-$1,600 price range (new). I believe I would want a Commander size but I am open to a full-size. Preference is stainless steel but I would consider blue. My goal is to find a gun that I must have, once I see it. I am flexible to the manufacturer. So there you have it. 1911 fans please share some options/opinions. I am seeking love at first sight!

I am a big 1911 fan. My most recent purchase was a Springfield Armory Ronin Operator 4.25" 45acp. I have several Springfields but when I saw the Ronin, I ordered one the next day. IMO the Sprinfield Armory 1911's are hard to beat in their price range.

If I were to take the next step up, it would definately be a Dan Wesson. As a matter of fact, I was looking at them online today

Ruger works for me and well within or under your price range.

Mine is the lightweight Commander though .... in 9mm.

Highly recommend it.

Just gonna start off with this. If I were going to get a 1911 for me, the new Colt Series 70 Government Model in blue would be at the top of my list (Santa? Are you reading this...?).

Ok. Now that I've got that out of the way...

For a new Commander in your price range, I'd look at Dan Wesson. They've built a solid reputation for making excellent 1911s. I'm rather fond of their CCO, but they have Commander models that should suit your needs/wants.

Colt has some solid Commander variations, from basic to more "advanced," I guess? The Wiley Clapp model is appealing to me.

However, I gotta say that I looked up the Ronin 1911 that tt66 mentioned, and I reeeeeeeeeally like what I saw. Though I have to admit I'm a sucker for 2-toned 1911s.

Any idea of what you want to use it for? Range use? Home defense? Concealed carry? Competition? Any prior experience with 1911s? Might help us hone in on some good recommendations instead of everyone listing every 1911 variation out there.

Yeah, go for it! 9 or 45, your choice. Colt will be "real", Dan Wesson is a great piece.

Only thing I'd say is, LW Commander is a solid pick, but a CCO might be cool too.

I too am a big 1911 fan, and there are a number of nice "Commander" sized SS 1911's out there.

I'll throw this one out there for you to consider. I bought it a couple years ago. Its a Kimber Aegis Elite Pro 1911 in .45acp. All SS construction with a factory mounted Vortex Venom optic, co-witness suppressor height sights, rounded heel (Very comfortable in the hand), checkered front strap, factory VZ Grips, and an excellent trigger. Series 70 type action (no firing pin safety). Shoots one ragged hole groups at 25 yards with 200 grain SWC target loads. I like it a lot.

Probably a nightstand or range gun unless I find a commander size. In that case, I may carry.

Most likely nightstand or range gun. Possible carry if I find the right commander. I have a collection of guns so I'm looking for something I enjoy (not simply a tool for a job). I have shot 1911's in the past but currently do not own one. Thanks for the feedback.

Another vote for Dan Wesson.

I have given a few some SERIOUS range time with ZERO failures.

My PM9 has 20k ish rounds through it and the only things I have done are a couple new recoil springs and clean it. Still tight, still locks up like a bank vault. PM45 has about 5k rounds also with zero malfunctions.

For some more perspective on just how good Dan Wesson makes guns in that price range, two friends that I shoot with both made GM in USPSA Single Stack division with PM9's. I have shot both of those guns and they are still perfect. Only minor parts replacement from wear. I would guess they both have over 100k rounds through them.

I wouldn't hesitate to buy another Dan Wesson 1911 and I plan to have more of them in my safe in the future.

If you're going to get a first 1911, it should be a Colt. Everything else is just a Colt knock off.

That's not to say that other manufacturers don't make very functional 1911's because they do.

I've had my eye on this very model. Problem is I can't seem to find it. Nobody I can find has it in stock. I probably was going to wait till closer to Christmas anyway, but if a great deal showed up, I might have to jump on it early. Glad to hear you like it soo much. Thanks
