Hey Doc, need help with grips?

Is there a Doc44 on the forum tonight? I need help with a set of non relieved N frame grips! ? ! ? !

I acquired this pre 27 6" the other night and it came with this set of stunning non relieved grips. My confussion is, are they considered "cokes"! I have other sets of cokes but they are all checkered and none of them have wood figured like these. Also these do not have the "feel" of the cokes! This gun was shipped in Sep 1954 so I would say the grips are correct for the gun.

Cokes or not, those are very nice. Congrats.

This is totally a guess which helps you none, butt the shape of the but of the grips is not as oval as traditional Cokes. That makes me think that they are not Cokes. They are very, very nice regardless of "what" style they are and being non-relieved I would think makes them a little more scarce than typical presentation grips.

Set them butt down and take a view from the front or back. The Coke curves profile should jump right at you or they are just smooth targets.

Those GA - NR smooth targets are beautiful and much harder to find than so called checkered "cokes". They pre date them and should also have the ever so slight palm swell. The swell can vary slightly between sets of the same era. Personally, I'd pay more for non relieved smooth targets than any standard checkered "coke" target stock.

I completely agree. That is what on these guns have on them & they letter that way too, although these are made of rosewood and yours appear to be Goncalo Alves, however that may make them even more difficult to find. Congratulations on getting that gun equipped with them.

Gentlemen, thanks for your replies! Mr 230, the grips on your pintos do indeed look like mine, except for the wood! They do not have the bottom flair. Also mine have very little, if any, palm swell and the bottom configuration is not oval like my other cokes! This gun came from an estate and was stored(and neglected) for 35+ years. Now I am wondering if the grips would letter to the gun? I guess this gun deserves a factory letter?

I think those are the Pepsi stocks. You want a real rarity try to find some Root Beer stocks.

IME all stocks from the 1950s are more rounded and often have a detectable palm swell. This makes everyone want to call them "Cokes" but as far as I know these legends of myth and lore are all checkered and only came on the early 41 and 44 Magnums. Uncheckered stocks and K Frame stocks are not the fabled "Cokes."

Joe...very nice stocks. My definition of a coke bottle stock includes the larger checked area, but the definition is evolving as I posted earlier. Your stocks don't appear to have a pronounced flare or palm swell, so they do not appear to fit the "new" definition.

Nice pair of pocket pistols ya got there Tom! But clearly, the wood has dried out... what they need is a nice coat of ZAR to seal up the grain ...

I have an engraved 1953 Pre 27 that is screaming for a set of grips like those.
I will trade you a whole tote full of Hogue and Pach grips (about 20 sets) even up and I will pay the shipping on both if that will help.
In reality a really stunning set of grips and a very nice revolver.
