Hey Grandpa - What’s For Lunch?

99% of our stores have Hunt's sloppy joe which is ok...........

I prefer Del Monte if I can ever find it.

My wife likes this quick and easy meal.

While you have those hamburger buns out.........................
you might try some frozen white fish patties and tarter sauce.
20 min on a cookie sheet and it is a done deal.

I liked to eat lunch with my Grandpa, He would fry up some potatoes add sliced ring polish sausage with hot biscuits. Sometimes it was smoked herring the dry salty kind with soda crackers and a cold coke, limburger cheese and crackers and cumber slices and fresh tomatoes. When my mom asked what was for lunch and I told her she would say that's not a fit meal for kids. I always enjoyed the food, some of the best days of my young life.

Did anybody else think of Hee Haw when they saw this?

This is not meant to be a thread drift, just a funny story.

I worked in a kitchen for years. Once, many years ago, I was in the back working on something when our bookkeeper, Lorraine, came walking by. She said, "Hey Grandpa! What's for supper?" I told her to give me a few minutes and I'd have something. A few minutes later, she came back by and I told her to ask again. She did. I gave her a little poem, in the same style as Grandpa Jones, and it was definitely NOT family friendly! It started, "We got cornbread and chitlins, we got red beans and rice, then after supper I'll treat you real nice". I won't go any further. She stood there and looked at me in amazement, and asked, "Did you just make that up?" I said yes, I did. She said, "Do another!" I wrote a total of seven of them, each more graphic than the one before it. She kept them for years. Just a funny kitchen story, I have a ton of them.

And so it's not a complete thread drift, I've made my own version of enchilada casserole for years, using chicken, green sauce, peppers and onions, tortilla chips and cheese. Sometimes a small amount, sometimes a bunch. It's a great way to finish up a Costco rotisserie chicken.

We're not cooking since there are realtors buzzing about, but the family can always rustle up a meal.

Don't know what is cooking in the pot on the fire, but considering the appetite of the man, I know the portions had to be big. Hubby's grandpa George on a meal break during one of his gold panning expeditions.

My Dad loved to listen to the Grand Ole Opry on the radio. He told me that when he was a kid (1930s), Grandpa Jones was an old man.

Per Wiki, Grandpa Jones was born in 1913, so he must have just played an old man till he aged into the role for real.

He did just that. :-)

A co worker and myself saw Grandpa getting out of his car as we were leaving a convenience store in Goodletsville, TN. Steve yelled "Hey grandpa, what's for supper?"

Grandpa got a terrible look on his face, raised his middle finger toward us, and yelled back "Go to hell you *******.!"

I was shocked, but still laugh about it. I guess he'd heard it pretty often.

I take Mom's taco meat, add a little ketchup and Pace picante sauce, then spoon it into a few slices of bread. Kinda like a bread taco. Good stuff. I do believe the couple pounds of ground beef we thawed out over the weekend are going to be taco meat. I will be doing this soon, too.
