Hey there folks, how are ya? I'm Gene, and I'm from New Jersey.

So I'm brand new to this forum (been on others for quite sometime), and wanted to say hi and fill you guys in!!

I did a bunch of research on this forum prior to purchasing my new gun. Which is an SD9VE.. Just picked it up last week and shot it for the first time Friday. And I must say, for the money, everyone is right. It's a great gun besides that trigger. I read about it and figured...eh how bad could it be....I hated it. Lol.

So I had done some more research and that night ordered the Apex spring kit, and the Apex polymer trigger for my gun as well as some Talon grips, and an extended take down bar. All the stuff should be here by the end of this week.

This seems like a great forum, with a lot of helpfully members, I'm just getting in to personal gun ownership after shooting for several years with family/friends. Thanks for taking the time to read this, and definitely looking forward to posting more, speaking with some people, getting some more knowledge and I will absolutely let you guys know how I like my new Apex equipment in my gun. Thanks again!

Welcome to the forum from Arkansas and yes this is a great forum for information on all things S&W.

Hey Jersey Gene, welcome and congrats on the new pistol. You picked a good starter level pistol, it will be a good tool to hold on to for HD. Like most of us here, you will probably find that shooting can become an excellent hobby and decide to buy other guns. Hold on to your first guns in each category, they're kinda like first girlfriends.

Welcome to the forum. Best one on the 'net!!! Not that I'm prejudiced or anything. You will love it here. If you haven't done so already, you should read the rules. They help keep this the most friendly and neighborly place I've visited!!!

Best Regards, Les

Hey thanks for all the welcomes! Looking forward to checking out some more posts and reading some tips and tricks. I love forums, I've been apart of them for years with my truck and my car. Tons of information and for the most part a bunch of friendly help. Thanks again!

Welcome, I'd say shoot it a bunch before putting the Apex kit in because if you run into something that needs warranty work you'll end taking the springs back out or lose them when S&W goes through the pistol.

I shot mine for 1 1/2 years before I gave in and got the Apex spring kit, ended up taking the Apex striker spring back out and put original back in as I was getting a lot of fail to fire's

Lol thanks again guys. I am going to shoot the gun a little bit more before I do the spring kit. I wish I knew someone around my area who had one with the springs already in. I put about 180-200 rounds through it the first night I took it to the range. Kept pulling left anticipating the shot waiting for the trigger to break. Was much different than my fathers 659 and my buddy's sig.45

Welcome from Cincinnati, and congrats on the SD9VE. I really like mine and have had no failures. I left my trigger stock and have gotten used to it.

Welcome from Cajun Country.
I already own the SW9VE & SW40VE. I just recently bought my SD9VE from my son. He only put about 100 rounds through it and decided he wanted an M&P instead.
To my SD9VE I added a factory S&W M&P rear sight, a Galloway 20# Glock G19 stainless steel guide rod, and a Galloway wide take down bar.
Of all of the aftermarket parts, IMO, that was the best investment is the wide take down bar. Removing the slide is 1K times faster than with the factory bar. It might seem trivial to others, but, I find removing the slide quickly and so much easier now.
The G19 SS guide rod is $12 cheaper than the Galloway S&W ss guide rod. And, it fits perfect. It sure helps keep muzzle rise down.
The factory SD9VE rear sight is a joke. It's plastic and there are no indentations to paint the dots. The factory M&P rear sight is metal and has indentations for the white painted dots. Brownell's sells them for $14 and change. DON'T FORGET THE SET SCREW
One last thing; this pistol will shoot ANY type/kind/make of 9mm ammo. It eats like a hog and is built like a tank! :D

So as promised, an update on my SD9VE. I shot it again with the factory trigger, and decided I really didn't like the pull. So I took the entire gun down and installed the APEX tactical polymer trigger, and APEX spring kit. Went back to the range and was instantly pumped. I love it now, I put about 100 rounds through it with the new stuff in it. And it is so smooth, and so much easier to sight up and keep it there while I'm pulling the trigger. Honestly it feels like a completely different gun. And my Talon grips just came in today so I put them on when I got home from work. Supposed to go put some rounds through her tomorrow, the grips feel great in my hand, can't wait to feel them while firing!!! Money well spent

Oh and I put my extended take down bar in as well, and it makes it a heck of a lot easier to hold on to. Another great 9$ addition to the SD9 id say!
