I would love to see the Plus in .45 as well.
Not me and I love a 40sw and carried one since '90 I think but not in a lite 3.5" or under barrel or with short grips as I like a long enough grip with out an extended mag so mag swaps can be clean with no chance of pinching a pinky . I have also found split times compared to a 9mm are slower thanks to reduced recoil management and if you prefer to use some of today's hotter loads they may not run reliably . 9mm ammo like from HST and ranger t series do a find job . Same for a 45 . Give me a 4" 4.25" barrel every time and mags filled with underwood loads .

I think the reason why they haven't already made an M&P40 Shield PLUS is because it could only be made to hold maybe an extra or two if that in the same size frame as the 9mm, which just isn't very compelling...
Honestly, say they did release an M&P40 Shield PLUS, but it only held 8 rounds in the flush magazine, 9 in the extended mag, for a grand total of 1 extra round over the existing M&P40 Shield. Would you be rushing out to buy one to replace your current Shield? Heck, even if you don't already own an M&P40 Shield, would you buy an M&P40 Shield PLUS, or just buy an older model for less money, and take the minor loss of a single round over the PLUS model, with the fringe benefit of having a thinner grip?
Keep in mind, the Shield PLUS is only marginally thicker than the standard Shield, yet the .40 S&W cartridge is 1mm thicker than 9mm, being a 10mm cartridge, ergo the added thickness of the Shield PLUS grip just doesn't go as far with .40 S&W, so at most, maybe the Shield PLUS frame could accommodate an extra round if chambered in .40 S&W, assuming it's even sufficient to fit even that much. It's entirely possible that the Shield PLUS grip just isn't thick enough or long enough to hold even a single addition round over the standard M&P40 Shield, ergo they'd have to thicken/lengthen the grip on a .40cal model, and at that point the size/thickness might be getting so close to that of the M&P40 2.0 Compact that it just isn't worth the effort to make it.
Remember the short-lived M&P40 2.0 Subcompact? Yeah, they offered that model for how long before they discontinued it? Know why? Because it only held two-three extra rounds in the magazine over the M&P40 Shield, yet was substantially thicker in width than the Shield, so folks either bought the Shield or the slightly taller M&P40 2.0 Compact with a 3.6" Barrel, which held 5 extra rounds over the M&P40 Shield.

I will buy a Shield Plus as soon as they make one in .45 ACP. Until then, I'll keep carrying my trusted Performance Center Shield 45.

Honestly, I'm not a fan of the 9x19, but I will shoot it and carry it. For a bottom feeder, I would prefer a 45 or a 40 (in that order).
However, the 9x19 appears to be the most prevalent handgun cartridge on the market today, and I remember a major topic of discussion in my military science classes when behind enemy lines, "pick up the enemies' and your fallens' ammo and weapons."
With that sage advice in mind, I should always be able to feed my 9mm handguns.

Personally, I've never understood the logic behind battlefield pickups and carrying whatever the military is carrying to feed your gun. Obviously where there's ammo there will be guns as well, so if you run out of ammo for your gun, then you can all the more easily just pickup guns off the battlefield.
Besides, the Russians and Chinese (i.e. the two most likely nations to attempt invasion of the U.S.) aren't even carrying 9mm Luger. Last I heard, Russian was still carrying 9x18 Makarov along with the new 9x21 Gyurza cartridge and the Chinese were still carrying 7.62x25 Tokarev along with the newer 5.8×21mm DAP cartridge.
So yeah, unless your carry gun happens to be a Makarov PM, Tokarev TT-33, or some other pistol chambered in an old Soviet Military cartridge, you probably won't find much ammo to feed your 9mm Pistol, unless the Nation Guard gets wrecked, and even then, I hope your carry gun is rated for +P, otherwise it probably won't hold up very well to hot 9mm NATO loads.

The best reasons for selecting a 9x19 pistol is ammo availability and cost on the retail level.

That is until my bummer fellow forum members shoved that magazine capacity reality in my face and totally killed that fantasy.

There’s no reality there. But if you think so, then thats the way for you. I’m 68 years old and been shooting handguns for over 50 years. Maybe someday I’ll post a thread asking for comparisons on calibers, but this isn’t that thread.
I own guns in all calibers. I own M&P’s in various sizes and calibers. I saw the new Shield plus and thought I might update my Shield with the new one. But I’ll wait on .40S&W, if they don’t make it, so be it.
I recently saw the M&P FPC, and I’d like to give that a try in 40S&W. If they decide to only make it in 9mm, I might try it, as it would just be a range toy, just like my Full Size 9mm CORE.
S&W may have decided I no longer need a 40S&W, and I need to get in line with those who use 9mm. But accepting something like that just isn’t me. Maybe the younger folks are okay with being told what they need or what makes sense, but my real-life experience has shown me firsthand that isn’t the 9mm for me.
But I am in no way suggesting that I know better than someone else what’s the best round for them. And 9mm is absolutely the most popular in sales right now.
