Hezbollah's Exploding Pagers

OK, a lot of terrorists were injured and some killed.

Just what did Israel achieve tactically or strategically?

Is Hezbollah now so terrified it will cease operations at least
for a while?

It could be that the pagers were a source of frustration to the Israelis. A pager message to a terrorist telling he/she to contact the cell is hardly an exploitable product, but it does allow Hezbollah to be fairly responsive. By taking away that facility, the Israelis slow the command and control of the Hezbollah hierarchy to a crawl.

I fully see your point but unless the pager attack was to cripple
an immediate and large threat, I'm not sure of the goal at this time. Maybe the Israelis heard Hezbollah was getting a routine
shipment of new pagers which the Israelis knew were "clean" so
they said, oh what the heck, detonate the old ones.

In any case, Hezbollah is now forewarned and will adapt I'm sure to the new reality when planning missions and attacks.

Traveling?

We also need to look at the bigger picture!
Want to play Russian Roulette?

I bet pretty soon we won't be able to
board Planes or Airlines with Cell
Phones, Laptops, or even those
large Headphones.

Man, this new type of electronic
warfare is going to get real, fast.

All those gadgets already go though the X-ray machine. Explosives look 'different' allowing their detection. Is this process 100% reliable? We shall see.

Seems like Israel's next move would be to send in a couple of IDF divisions into Lebanon. Waste everyone with recent head wounds, missing fingers or shredded groins. Talk about about a plan to reduce collateral damage among the civilian population. Your targets are clearly marked. Ha! Problem mostly solved!.........for the moment.

FYI. And since pagers, walkie talkies and cell phones already have circuitry it becomes difficult to detect and the lithium battery makes a good detonator.

"Among the many reasons PETN is preferred for terrorist attacks, one is that X-rays cannot detect it directly, although it can be given away by the wiring and other electrical equipment that go into making the bomb. Again, because it packs so much power, it is often enough to carry small amounts of PETN.
Further, PETN is less stable than TNT and RDX, while their explosive strengths are comparable to one another. PETN can be detonated with a very small electrical spark."

It can be difficult for some to understand internet searches these days. It's also hard for many to grasp that much exists of which they are unaware; just because one doesn't know about these things is not proof of government inaction or incompetence, but is instead only an indication of the absence of one's individual unawareness of USG efforts.

Yeah, I'm a rube and don't know how to use Google - because I searched for the EXACT terms you posted (which were wrong) - instead of the CORRECT words you MEANT to post. So it's my bad for not being able to figure out exactly what you were referring to.

So, I looked at your links and here are the results:

PISCES - I couldn't find where any of your posted links has any information about an acronym that even resembles this one, so I still don't know what you are talking about - not quite sure you do either. Please enlighten us further.

WASP - still not seeing how this one connects to any of the links you posted either. Still nonsense without further correction/explanation.

IABS - I see you posted a link to IAFS (not the same thing as IABS, BTW) - so I guess I was supposed to somehow figure out how you fat-fingered this one?

INTERPOL I-27 - again, I guess I was supposed to somehow figure out that you meant we should search for "I-24/7 INTERPOL"? Just FYI, these two search terms return VERY different results.

So basically it would appear that either 1) you are throwing out a bunch of nonsense "stuff" that you don't expect anyone to really fact-check - in order to appear more knowledgeable than you really are - a.k.a. bloviating, or 2) you can't even keep the acronyms that support your position straight.

So which is it? Not that it really matters...

Umm, OK. Here's what I got from the Google.com website doing internet searches using those terms...

PISCES - one of 12 signs in the Zodiac and an astrological constellation.

WASP - White Anglo Saxon Protestant - also a hair band from the 1980's - also an insect

IABIS - Iraq Automated Biometric Identification System

INTERPOL I-27 - a Wikipedia article on what Interpol is.

Was some part of this supposed to be enlightening or educational?

What exactly was your point - other than (maybe) to throw out a bunch of random acronyms?

Please clarify, because at this point your post seems to be nonsense.

Didn't check them all but sseing PISCES and WASP I assumed they were some sort of Intel Unit. So I Googled PISCES Intel Unit and WASP Intel Unit and immediately got the government meanings. Seemed common sense enough in the. context of this thread.

I did some googling and pretty much had the same luck as BC38. I figured it was all double naught spy stuff way above my limited governmental pay grade (I am a GS 0, having never been on the government tit. But I have said "close enough for government work" most of my life.)

Thanks for that info. I learned something by Googling PISCES INTEL UNIT - but still came up empty searching for WASP INTEL UNIT.

FWIW, IMO, those who want claim to be "in the know" need to be very specific with their info if they want to make a point.

JMO...

You can lead a horse to water, but some won't drink. Some read content well, some don't.

The nostalgia of Hezbollah's leader was on display today when he wistfully muttered: "We must enjoy our children while we can. They blow up so fast." Joe

Yeah, some post relevant content well - and some don't.
It seems that you fall more into the latter category.
As always, your posts are a waste of bandwidth.

You and I both made a mistake here....you assumed the USG was doing nothing in the CT space, and I assumed you actually wanted to know about these programs rather than just argue. Seems we were both wrong.
