Welcome to the forum! The metal frame S&W's are very good guns. I've had two Glocks, (got rid of them) and picked up a S&W 4053. I love it and never looked back.

Welcome to the forum. I am sure that like myself you will find it to be very entertaining as well as educational.

Thanks!! I just got in from the range..gave the 4006 a work out...I LOVE THIS GUN!! It's a tack driver too!! I picked up 3used 11 round mags..with "RED" base plates?? I have never seen red?? they have yellow followers.Anyone know the reason for red bases? Is 11 rnds the highest cap for the 40 cal 4006? thanks again!

Are the magazine baseplates painted red or made from red plastic? Some agencies use training magazines for the range so officers don"t have to download thier duty ammo at qualification time. I never liked that idea for a number of reasons. They may have been painted so they didn't walk off from the range. For a lot of agencies red on a gun means that it is a nonfunctioning firearm so they may have been used for that purpose. I have seen blue baseplates for Simunition guns. If they work I would just remove the paint or replace the baseplates.

The base plates are red plastic...not painted!! they work fine..just a odd color...I would rather black..but the price was nice. I think they were police trade in's...the shop had a box full!

I figured they were from a PD somewhere. You should be able to find regular baseplates for them. If you have problems locating some let me know and I will try to help.
