Those of you that have aftermarket grips, could you show pictures and give comments. I have a MKII with the black plastic grips with the thumb rests, and these are way better than the wood issue grips. Thanks, Mark

Hi Power Grips

I have Herrett Brand knockoffs or at least similar to Craig Spegal.
I bought mine at CDNN, I checked they do not have them in stock right now.
I also looked on Mr Spegals website and was surprised to see his real ones start at only $40.00. $50.00 for checkered
I wholeheartedly recommend his grips.
With his grips, or even my copies, the Hi-Power fits my hand like no other gun,or at least I thought it did until Smith started making their M&P Semi Auto line.
They fit me very well too.
Good luck, the Hi-Power is a great gun, I don't shoot mine much any more, but would never get rid of it !

Spiegel on the wife's .40.

One side split, unfortunately, but some thin set hobby cement fixed it good.

The wife and I hate the standard grips...especially the factory wood grips.

HATE THEM.

I Have Spegel's in cocobolo on mine and see no reason to change.

Standard factory wood grips are like shaking hands with a 2x4.
My BHP wore Spegels-the best imo.The palm swell makes a very nice difference.I also liked the Esmeralda grips that I had for it too.

My MkIII wears a set of Rosewood checkered Hogues. They have a nice satin finish and have held up nicely to 3.5 years of regular use. I don't have a set of Spegels to compare to, but from what I've seen and heard from people who own both is that the Hogues are a bit thicker and have a bit less palm swell. I find them comfortable, especially the smooth upper part of the grip where my thumb rests. My only complaint is that they appear cut for earlier forged frames, so they're a little loose on my cast frame MkIII. I loctited the screws which has kept them from moving much.

For those of you that ordered Spegels, what wood type and grade did you order? I'd like to get a set for my Hi-Power, and possibly a K-frame, but I don't know what to order.

I put these on mine, they are not period correct, the pistol is from '51, but the originals are worn and grease soaked.

On my Argentine Hi Power , I thought the factory grips were fine. And then I felt a set of Spegels. Shortly after that found out the UncleMikes grips are liscensed copies of Spegels. Not as pretty , but same feel.

I actually love the factory grips on my 1950's and 1960's Hi Powers. They fit my hand perfectly. I have a number of sets of aftermarket stocks that were on guns that I purchased over the years that just sit around in a box in the basement. They are primarily Hogues, Pachmayr, assorted wood or bakelite, etc….

I've used Spegels, Hogue, Navidrex and Nills. The Spegels and Hogues are my favorites, thin and very well made. The Nills are beautifully made, but the palm swell makes them a little thicker. The micarta Navidrex are the thinest of these, basically flat, but not quite as nicely executed as the others IMHO. I've attached a photo, low resolution, but you can get an idea what they look like. The Spegels are Coca Bola, the Nills Walnut and the Hogues Goncalo.

BTW, the worst looking, thickest and worst fitting Hi Power grips I've ever used are the factory brownish, sometimes purplish ,"Walnut" grips that have come on the blued Hi Powers for quite a few years now. They are NOT the same as the French Walnut grips that came on "T" and "C" series Hi Powers for years......

I had pachs on it but it was too ugly, then went to CDNN Cocobolas but they were a little sharp, then I tried the thin navidrex but they felt too thin....I even tried the black plastic that came on the later ones, but again, not very attractive...I eventually went back to the stock wood. But such is the life of a gun owner....overthink overthink overthink.

Well, it kinda depends on what you want to do...There are lots of very pretty
even outright beautiful grips -- pearl, ivory, gorgeous woods, even sterling
silver. Depends on your taste.

For plain old I wanna shoot it I highly recommend the Pachmayr grips. I
swear by mine, I use them on my IPSC HiPower. They're comfortable,
they grip, they don't grind away your hand. They are about as not-pretty
as you can get, and they are about as functional as you can get.

lousy picture (if I manage to attach it at all)...
