hiding guns...

Most of you guys are clearly unskilled at this stuff. First, when going to a gunshow, you always take gun rugs. Sometimes with guns to sell. Females generally don't care what goes out, only what comes back in. If 5 full gun rugs go out, only 5 will be welcomed back in. They never bother to check the contents, only weight to make sure you're not trying to pull a fast one.

Whenever there's handiwork to be done inside, tools travel from the cars, truck, or tool box into the house. You can put a bunch of tools into a 6" rug. Consider it like catching the 8:00 train to town. Only my tools catch the express train to my Jeep. Or whatever. Full rug goes out, full rug comes home. Any search of the Jeep reveals some tools. Hell, railroad ballast would work as well. Bring it inside when she's sleeping, napping or whatever. Carry it out as you're leaving for the gunshow.

Ever wondered what that little pile of rocks in the parking lot at the show is? Wonder no more. Someone with years of experience over you has just deposited them in favor of a new-to-him gun.

There are pitfalls, guys. One is breaking the wifely connection between the number of boxes you own and the number of guns. That training took years to perfect. It started over 15 years ago at National Gun Day when I came home with no guns, but a very nice red K22 box, and its gold twin. OK, the half thief sales guy at a book booth had both, and he wanted $20 each for them. Some haggling, some fake tears on my part, and me wasting way too much of his time allowed me to buy both for $25...... OK, look who's calling the kettle black. But it was a fair price back then. Oh, has your GM stock done as well?

OK, I came in with 2 clearly not new but very good condition boxes. Me all excited over my grand buying skill. She was disgusted when she heard I'd wasted $25 on moldy old boxes, both older than me. But I took them down to my lair, the mancave, and was happy. A few other times we went to antique shows and I scored boxes. Then time passed and more empty boxes came along. A huge pile on top of the one safe. Some old, some new, but no connection to guns, just gun crap. I even somehow managed to talk our friend and former poster Dewey out of a great looking couple of boxes. They came UPS. She'd see the unopened package sitting there.

I exercised great self control. No way I was opening them until Momma got home. Then with great fanfare, I'd open a box he'd sent me, with nothing else inside but an old gun box. It completely shattered the connection between guns and boxes being equal.

The next thing to work on was a gunrug to gun connection. One day the Chin (not really derogatory term for the chinese guy) was selling off a bunch of rugs at the end of a gunshow. He'd not done well, and his normal show price to vendors was $3 each. He offered me and my pard John 10 of them for $25. We did something really stupid and far reaching. We each bought $50, in full view of both of our wives! What was the song? Big ones, short ones, fat ones, thin ones? Yes, we endured our wives complaining. Mostly "what are you two ever going to do with all them?" We didn't know. Except it was a well spent $50. On very rare occasions I include a rug with a gun I've sold off. Whenever I buy one, I ask for a rug. They tend to build up over time.

Did any of you pay attention? Do you realize that hand tools can ride out to the garage, or to the truck in a gun box? As long as the box feels heavy, or sounds heavy when you clunk it down on the end table while you put on your coat, it counts as a gun going out. Whenever you bring back an empty box, it counts in your favor as a gun sold off.

Of course you've got to take her out to a steak dinner because you're assumed to be flush with cash. Big deal, you'd have to do that anyhow. Besides, you eat, too.

I put them in the cupboard with the pots and pans. She never looks in there.

i usually wait til she isn't here. but, i'm running out of hiding places. the manroom is really just a man closet....& is full. then i have a work table area in the garage. she's getting smarter though and has taken to using the kid's metal detector at times...rarely pats me down (there) anymore. if i walk in the house like Chester on Gunsmoke...she knows.

Don't hide them from my wife. If I get a new one, she knows she'll be getting a new one soon too.

About half of our guns were actually bought by the other.

I awoke in the middle of the night, I was thrashing about and screaming "NO, NO, NO".

My wife asked me what my nightmare was about but I couldn't tell her. I claimed I forgot.

Actually, I dreamed I had passed away and she was selling off all my guns at the price I told her I paid for them...........
