After more than 25 years of perfect duty quitted my Yamaha A 700 amplifier
its duty. The Electrovoice Interface speakers which are some years older lost its tweeters almost at the same time. It was a great combination that placed Keith Jarret's piano, Johnny Cash' Folsom Prison, or Richard Strauss' Planets in the middle of our living room. I needed to vac the floor everytime, after Eric Clapton's Cocaine..... :-). It was a hard knock for me. :-(

It is not easy as a stereo-purist, to step into todays, homeelectronic shops.
I was looking for an amplifier with a turntable-connection and a good earphone connector, but leave me alone with 5.1 or 7.1 soundsystem. Dammit! Finally I discovered the (US-founded) Harman/Kardon HK990 with accustic
calibrationsystem. The speakers was not so difficult. I hate the analytic or
"german sound" which can be use for cutting onions with the overpresent
high frequencesl Oh no, Sir, I want again a " warm. natural sound. Bowers & Wilkins maype.... . Then, the choice was clear for a pairTannoy Precision 6.2!!

The biggest problem after installing the new combination was the roomfuse.
The amp sucks so much energy while the startingprocess... ooooh man. Fixed.
And the heat after an hour of "mouthopen and stunning' listening to Michael Haydn's Synphonic in C-Dur, which rises up over the cooling-rips of the black
HK 990 is unbelivebal!!!.

Any comments and experiences to this theme are very welcome.

Is there an interpreter in the house?:D

J/K Swissman, sounds like you have quite the setup there. Unfortunately for me, between my 4-year stint in a steel mill and years of sitting behind a drum kit between Marshall Stacks have taken any discriminating taste out of my ears.

An audiophile, I ain't.

Give me my vintage Marantz 2265b or Pioneer SX -1010 with stacked Advents for rock or my Fisher 400 with Dynaco A25s for jazz. Of the vintage stuff is in proper spec, it sounds so good!

audio is honestly somewhat of a dead art.
the dolby surround stuff is utter garbage, with most systems seemingly incapable of producing a proper sound stage and trying to compensate with some cheesy effect.

Its sounds to my like your Yamaha went into HF oscillation which took out your tweeters while it died screaming from overheat.

if it were mine to deal with, I might be inclined to gut the mortal remains of the A 700, check its PSU for power and do some amp building.

sounds like a kick butt system -can it tune out the ringing in my ears? jk:)
i had a car with a pretty nice pioneer system about 20 years ago, i know how that stuff can get out of hand. when you are in pursuit of perfect sound, its always just a new component away.
enjoy, and turn it up!
