Over in the bump stock thread, a number of people have made reference to attempts to ban "high capacity" magazines. I almost put this there, but decided it needed its own thread.
"High capacity magazine" is just more made up media/political BS. In most cases what they are referring to are actually standard capacity magazines. They are made for the number of rounds which the makers of the firearm intended for it to carry.
Yes, there are high capacity mags. An example being the extended pistol magazine which hold up to twice as many rounds as the original. These are actual "high capacity" magazines.
But for the most part, the antis and the media are attempting to demonize the standard size magazine as being evil in some way. Just as they did with the term "assault rifle".
And yet, I see it everyday. Honest, pro-2nd gun owners use that erroneous term on a regular basis. The media/antis have made the term so common that even we are using it.
And that is completely ignoring the fact that, with a little practice, magazines can be changed in two seconds or less.
So just as many of now refer to ARs, AKs and such as "Modern Sporting Rifles", I say we should stop playing their game. They are "Standard Capacity" magazines. Let's call them what they really are.
If we just start using this term in normal conversation or politely correcting those using the wrong term. Just maybe we can start to make a dent in public perception.
