I have a few digital stack on safes and a gunvault. I can get into them quickly but I know they're not the best as far as reliability and some YouTube videos have them being defeated pretty easily. I've never had them fail but who knows?

So I see Fort Knox has some quick access pistol safes with simplex locks. Are they more secure than the gunvault or stack on's? Worth the switch?

There are several good options for you that use the "Simplex" style lock if you want to go mechanical. In my opinion, they are all stronger boxes than most of the electronic ones since they use thicker steel to begin with than most electronic ones. They range from 16GA all the way to 7GA.

Most people assume the electronics are quicker, but that's not my opinion, especially if it has to "wake up" first which is the case with most of the biometric ones. With a mechanical lock you can also pre-punch all or part of your combination when going to sleep to make access even faster.

Depending on what features you are looking for V-Line, Ft. Knox, AMSEC, and FAS1 offer products worth considering.

Thanks. None of the simplex type ones I have found are really suited for more than one gun. They're all so tiny. The Fort Knox ones are only 4" high! I had a v-line once and it was maybe 3 inches high. I'd bang my hand and the gun on the inside of the safe as I put it in and took it out. I'm looking for something with s simplex lock that is as high as my stack on's. About 9 inches high or so. A shelf would be nice too. Fort Knox does make a CAB box that fits the bill, but it's like 170 bucks to ship it, on top of the 400 for the safe. Amazon offers free shipping but they don't stock that one, just the little 4" high ones.

How many guns are you wanting to store in it? I thought you were looking for a few quick access safes that would fit 1 to 2 guns. I think the Ft Knox Original Pistol Box will fit 4 guns if stacked two high. The FAS1-MAX or MAX XL will store 4 or 5 guns pretty easily. The FAS1-SBD when used with the standard holster will give you quick access and plenty of storage for several guns, mags, ammo, etc.

3-4. I ordered the Fort Knox original one. Probably only put 2 in there. I don't like the narrow openings. Fort Knox one opens up so I can see in there. I'll put the rest in another safe.
