High Standard

Picked up this model 102 Supermatic Citation, one mag, at a small local gunshow yesterday, $365 OTD. Late 50's - early 60's vintage I believe.
Has a few rough spots, muzzle is a bit dinged up where compensator was installed and removed w/a hammer I think.
Spent a few hours cleaning it up, it was pretty dirty. Put some CCI SV rounds thru it today, shoots sweeter than I'd hoped.
High Standard made some nice guns that don't seem to get the recognition.

Good looking gun. I have a Duramatic M-101 from the 60's that i inherited from my Grandfather. It's my favorite gun to shoot.

I have this Supermatic S-01. One like it taught me to shoot a pistol around 1954.

Back when I started out with guns, I opted for a S&W M41 instead of the Hi Standard. Nothing wrong with the Smith 41, but I wished I had gone for the Hi Standard. I have shot a bunch of them (HS) over the years and they are truly sweet shooters with great triggers. Don't particularly care for the controls (why they put the slide release on the "wrong side" is puzzling and don't care for the magazine release on the bottom either. That said, they are GREAT SHOOTERS - maybe even better than my 41. Maybe one day I'll get one but it would HAVE TO BE an original one of course.

Thanks, first handgun I shot was a model 107 Military Citation, so 12 yrs ago looking to get into shooting came across model 103 Supermatic Tournament w/wood lefthand grips which was the real deal maker.
Knew nothing about military grip vs slant grip models.
A while later picked up a nice mix-70's Model 41. Took a while to realize that I actually shot the HS better.

These are great guns and I believe I currently have 3 of them. My favorite for target work is the Victor and it is a tack driver. It's far more accurate then I can shoot anymore.

I grew up and learned to shoot (at age 5) on an old High Standard. Brother still has it. The firing pins mushroom if you dry fire, so he makes them himself (he's a 'smith).

Have several 22 semi-autos but not a High Standard. Wouldn't mind finding one, though.
