To pain, (had alot of practice heart valve, hip replacment and others). Went by the advice of primary doc to E R last week due to hip locking up and very hard to move. (That hip is been replaced about two years ago.) E R juiced me up with pain med I know they where trying to help. But that stuff really dosnt help me. It makes me sick.I have better luck with Tynol when need other than those high power meds. Anyone else like that??

I once had an abscessed tooth pulled without any Novocain (there was so much abscess/infection that the Novocain had nowhere to go).....but I didn't like it.

I have an inherited high pain tolerance....but I have come to believe it's more of a hindrance than a help. It has in the past kept me from going to the doctor long after I should have. I rely on my much wiser wife to keep me straight medically these days.

Wow - I thought I was the only person who doesn't seem to be affected by the narcotic pain killers. They fail to relieve my pain, and I don't experience any effects that would entice me to take them for non-medical reasons.

Had major surgery about six weeks ago, and left the hospital with a prescription for one of the narcotic drugs you hear about in the news so much. Didn't bother to get it filled; just took OTC Naprosyn.

Yes day three of the 31day stay for heart valve off the pain meds. Day one of hip replacment off pain med due to heart rate to low. Only time the juice has worked for me is kidney stone surgey and stones. Only time and that is pain indeed lol.

About 16 years ago, a truck I was working on rolled of the ramps and parked on mu shoulder/chest. My wife drove it back off again and the paramedics hauled me off to the hospital. The morphine they gave me on the way in didn't do much and my daughter, who is an expert on pain meds, had the doctor switch me to Demerol. I was in the hospital for a week and remember a total of about 5 minutes.

I avoid them as much as possible.......

Even the over the counter stuff can mess up your kidneys and liver so taking anything habitually can hurt you. I've had pain problems, but now they are more frequent but I still try to lay off the stuff. I break down, though. The other day I had a terrible sinus headache that about every 10 seconds would hurt enough to stop me whatever I was doing and cringe. So I took some Ibuprofin. Last night I had neuropathy pain in a toe that kept me cringing so I broke down again and took some more. I always try to take an over the counter before I take any narcotic stuff. If I get some pain pills I save them for 'emergencies' and I've had to take a couple pills this year. I had a friend who HAD to have oxycodone constantly and he was almost an addict before he died. Several times he had to stop himself from taking them like candy.

I guess what I'm saying is that ANY pain med is best avoided, but if you can't function, you gotta take something.

I am totally immune to novacaine and xylociane (both spelled wrong!) My brother has about 15 minutes from a triple shot of xylociane. Both of our children get a small amount of relief from both. Non cocaine based pain meds work fine.

I have had several teeth pulled and 2 bones set without any local or general sedative. I had a Rx for oxycodone from wisdom tooth removal, I burnt the Rx and took Advil for a day and a half.

BTW, a former employee and sometime drug dealer, told me not to waste my money on cocaine.

My wife doesn't have my abilities to not feel pain she just ignores it. $ kids/no meds. About 5 years ago her appendix exploded, after surgery by a day I was sitting with friends in her hospital room and a nurse comes in and about pain (From 1 to 10) My wife responds in a calm voice "10". The nurse was skeptical, one of the friends who is a physical therapist for the hospital, told the nurse not to let the calm demeanor fool her. My wife feels pain, she just refuses to let it control her! (we refer to her as a Vulcan with round ears!)
