I purchased this S&W model 28 Highway Patrolman from another forum member about a month ago. I finally had a chance to fire it today, what a rush. It is a great firearm with all the power that you need in a conflict or just to enjoy.I realy like this revolver and plan to shoot it as much as possible.
Just thought that I would pass this on to the rest of the membership.Smith&Wesson all the way !!!!

Cool. It's really hard to beat an N frame for all around shooting fun in .357 cal. They are just so easy to shoot easily, and accurately. I owned a 28-2 with a 6" bbl for about 20 years, and it was near mint. I traded it off right before the big boom after the election last year. I have a 27-2 with the 5" bbl, and it is (in my opinion) the perfect .357. There is no difference between the two models other than finish, but I much prefer the 5" bbl for any N frame.

The M28 is my favorite gun, period.

I stupidly sold the first one I bought NIB in the late 70's, began trading guns, but forgot how great the N-frame .357s were until the past few years.

As much as I like my 27-2, when it comes time to shoot, it's the less fancy 28's which accompany me to the range. I live in fear of marring the finish on the 27, but the 28s scream, "Shoot me!"

My 4" 28-2 (DOB 1966-67) has been worked over by a gunsmith, and is just as light and smooth as any gun I own.

The trigger on the 6" (DOB 1977) is not as light, but it locks up like a new gun.

In fact, I like Model 28s so well I recently bought a third one! It's a 4" model, and is still at my FFL, but I expect to get it this weekend.

You can't go wrong with a Highway Patrolman. They are great, tough, accurate, and fun to shoot. They look nice too. Just be careful, the one drawback of a 28 is that they are addicting.

I have lots of guns that are flashier, fancier, etc. But if I absolutely could only have one sidearm to get me through the rest of my days, I suspect I would choose my 6" Highway Patrolman. This one has a lot of miles on my hip on a dirt bike, and an ATV, in the seat of my truck, and in a saddle bag on the back of my nag.

It would be a hard gun to replace or let go.

I just got this M28 Monday took it out yesterday and did some shooting with the son-in-law.
all I can say is WOW!! what a gun.
just as accurate as my M686 6" and handles full power loads just as well.
this is a keeper.
it is now my house and winter carry gun.

My 6" Model 28-2 is a pleasure to shoot. I'll bet you'll continue to enjoy yours, but be forewarned, one will not be enough. Ask me how I know...

Centenniel is right, I am on the hunt for a 6" version right now.
I was so impressed with the 4" model that I just got to have a 6" model to match it.

Welcome to the HP world! I'm new as well, I got a 95% 4" HP a few weeks ago. I can't say enough about it. Even with some mega hot Double Tap 125 grainers the recoil is totally controllable. I'm in the process of holster selection, as I plan to carry it here and there. (Yeah I know, its too big...nahh, my EDC is a S-W 645.)

Hi 3rd Gen Neal, I carried this 28 to the range and the fellow shooter didn't know that I was carrying until we got to the range and I took off my coat.It does tuck in tight with my Desantis holster. I plan on carrying a lot.

You can't go wrong with a 4"28-2, I love mine, its one of the best shooting .357 I have along with my 4"13-3, for me they are both keepers, good luck with your Highway Patrolman

Great revolver! Four months ago I bought a 28-2 4 inch. After shooting nothing but 357s in the revolver it has become my number one revolver for 357s. I have five other 357s but my model 28 tops them all.

Yep, a used 4" Model 28 was my first "grown up" gun way back when. Others have come and gone but I will always keep this one.

I have been looking for one for a long time. Yesterday I took my daughters fiance with me to the Dallas Market Hall show. It must have been good Karma because I came home with this.

I haven't cleaned it up yet -- a little fine steel wool and oil will remove most of the surface rust and blemishes. I have changed stocks though to something more appropriate.

The action is smooth and timing is perfect. I cannot find any evidence of wear or gas cutting on barrel or frame so I do not think it has been shot much. It is a 28-2, SN is N2561xx can anyone give me an approximate birth date? Many of the Game Wardens in my agency carried these through the mid to late 1980's when they made the conversion to Glocks.

have you thought about using break free and stainless steel wool (pot scrubber)?
