I am in the process of checking out a five screw HP .... four inch. S/N .... 1156XX

There is some wear on the blueing on both sides of the muzzle.

The gun has been fired VERY little and was well fitted.

There is but one catch!

To my eye, I would say someone took a very sharp center punch and peened the juncture between the end of each of points of the ejector star and the opposing surface of the cylinder.

What in the world was they thunkin' ..... ??

That sounds possible first year production, dont know the price but that is your business. In regards to the " peening marks ", see if you can put in 6 empty 38 special and 357 cases to work the action , open and close the cylinder to check for binding and work the ejector rod to push out the cases. I was wondering if the spring in the ejector rod was weak and peening helped to keep things in place as a wild guess. Sound like you could get the price down abit to offset any smith work if its something not right FWIW

I think maybe it was out of time sometime in its life and those are firing pin marks. Might be that the cylinder stop is sluggish, allowing the cylinder to turn past it. I've seen it on a few old guns.

I made a mistake on the S/N ..... it's 1156XX.

shuvelrider, thanks for the idea.

I thought that somebody intended to cause the empties to jump from the chambers as the peening is such that the ejector binds with the cylinder enough to cause a good bit of resistance.

Sgt 127,

Thanks, I had not thought of the firing pin doing this ..... this may well have been be the culprit.

I am not shy on the $$$$ issue.

The asking price is $350.00 ..... this peening having my shorts in a knot aside, overall the gun is quite tight and only a faint turn line. Blueing worn on the end of both sides of the muzzle.

Myself, for my tastes .... an N-frame is at it's best in a "fourty something" caliber. Yet this 28 could grow on me.

And as my wife brought it home for me to try out ..... it might grow on her as well.

Decisions .... Decisions ......

If it were a pre-29 ..... I would be ALL OVER IT!

Regards
