My question

Was there ever a Model 28 made with a 5" BBL

I see 4" and 6" around but have never seen a 5"
What say you

Since the 28 was the budjet version of the 27, it wasn't offered with many options.

The only options were 4" or 6" barrel and magna or target grips.

For some reason, I thought they made 5 inch Model 28s for the Florida Highway Patrol, although I could be confused - I am certainly capable of being confused on occasion!

5 inch barrels were made on some special orders. There are also some very rare 8 3/8"s that were produced.

I believe you are correct, the FHP Model 28's were 5 inches and nickeled.

I was not aware of a 5" model 28. While I would prefer one in blue over nickel, a 5" 28 would be a great shooter. It would provide a tad more muzzle weight and pointablility, features I like in all guns. You get my vote. Actually, any 'N' frame 5" would get my vote. I have two, a 27-2 and 629-4 and want many, many more!

This is my understanding as well. As was said elsewhere in this thread, the Florida Highway Patrol had some made up and possibly some other agencies did, but barrel lengths of other than 4" or 6" are very unusual.

[lang=sv]Hi Chuck,
No not as a standard production, only 25 made for Florida Highway Patrool in nickel finish, shipped in 1959. Btw model 27 was made in 5" as a standard production, I got one from the late 1950s[/lang]
