Hello and thank you in advance for your assistance
I have a 4 inch Model 586, adjustable sights (rear sight with white outline and front sight in orange or maybe red), 3 screw with serial number ADN4287. I'm curious to know approx when it left the factory.
I have been to the S&W website but when i entered the above serial number it could not locate the model.
Thank you!

It is too young to have any history. :D:D:D:D:D

It is good that you came here, since contacting S&W with these sorts of questions has become a complete waste of time at best. Unfortunately, since they eliminated the Historian position, it is virtually impossible to get reliable information from the company.

But you have now come to the one place such information is actually available. The best of the best hang out here. And so do some dumbbells like me . . . :)

As rbmac52 wrote, '83-'85 is the right range. Personally, I would guess 1984. The reality is only a letter from the S&W Historical Foundation can tell you for certain. But I suspect a ballpark is what you are looking for, and now you have it.

Cheers!

My 586 no dash was shipped 1983. No "M" stamp. Need some pics on this thread. I do have the original target stocks. Bob

This is my 1987 Mod 586-1 that I picked up in July 13 for 750. Another great shooting revolver.

I have 4" 586 no dash I picked up several years ago. The SN is AAE78XX and the date is April of '82. It is one of the most accurate .357's I've ever had. The 4" balance well and shoot well. I hand load for it with my loads using wheel weight 158 grain cast SWC bullets. You will enjoy it!
