I just installed one of these in my Dillon 550. The only thing I can say is WOW! This product took all the wobble out of the shellplate. I haven't loaded anything yet, but I'm sure it will help make my OAL length more consistent. If you have one of these, I'm interested in your opinion.
 
Since 1984, I've been loading on a 450 that been upgrader several times. I never had a wobble in my shell plate! I think you had it adjusted a little too loose.

Since you gave so little info about the kit or the load, there isn't any way to have an opinion let alone share it.

When you include more info please include the number or letter of the shell plate you are using for that cartridge (they have changed things up over the years!)

Been loading on 2 SQ-Deals for over 20 years. Never had a wobble. Keep the center bolt tight.

I don't think the Center Bolt is his problem. Some of the shell plates fit more than one rim size by using a different button, and that may be the origin of his problem. For example there are a couple of ways to come up with a shell plate for 40S&W, 10mm, 7.62x39, 6mmMS, & 6.5 Carcano. (6.5 Grendel, 50 Beowulf, and 224 Valkyrie and some others too!) Depending on which way you get there may cause the brass to wobble.

I have been installing Mc Master roller bearings under the shell plates for a decade or more. Is that what this kit is?
 
If you load "Hit Factor for Dillon 550" into Google you get an Amazon link right off for this. It is one of those ball bearing kits for the shellplate along with a longer center bolt to fit it. I have a 450 myself and have seen these type kits before, but to me it is an answer to a problem I've never had.

I don't remember reading anything about the shellplate being useable for different cals. Jus kind of something you learn by looking at the shell plate lists..then find the powder funnel/ expander list to see what is needed. The one shellplate fits all idea is kind of neat but not necessarily a perfect fit for all the calibers. But I doubt if some of the calibers listed will be loaded regularly on a 550/650/1050. Especially the more obscure ones. I have loaded some of the more obscure rounds such as 6.5 MS and Carcano and others ...but not on a Dillon. Just don't usually need many of them for the most part.

I've never seemed to need one of these bearing kits or die holder plates either. Factory stuff seems to work just fine for me I did make a spent primer drop tube to handle the primers on my 1050s, Go right into a bucket
 
I was having issues with the shells losing (spilling) powder when they indexed. The 550 is a manually indexing machine, this 650 is what I use. The real fix was clipping the detent ball spring. Dillon's have become like Harley-Davidson's. There are companies selling all sorts of upgrades. At the time I was loading 400 to 500 rounds a week, and the spilled powder changed the charge ever so slightly. Other that ride the shell plate with a finger, there was a fix needed. The die holder moves up and down just a bit, so the bolt in option was a good one to control bullet seating. I have not modded anything else for the last 10 years.
 
I'm curious how much variation in COL you were getting before the kit and how much it changed after?

I am new to loading with a 550b, bought used, with all stock equipment and Dillon dies. I just checked the COL's on a batch of 50, 9mm, 124 fmj rn all Blazer brass. I found one round at 1.150 and all others were 1.153 to 1.155. I would say that's pretty darn good. Even the difference between 1.155 and 1.150 is only .005.

My index cards I record data on are .007 thick. :eek:
 
Probably not that much. I disliked the movement, the kit only involved tapping the plate and installing allen bolts. But on the 650, you are using several dies at the same time, and I thought there was some rocking going on. The die cast plates were shiny from movement on the edges.
