I finally bought my first HK, a 1990s vintage USP in .40 S&W. I have always wanted a HK since I was kid, so this was defiantly one of my grail guns. The thing that amazes me about this USP is despite the gun being over 20 years old; the gun looks and feels brand new despite having been shot a bit. Most used guns I buy have a looseness to them, this old USP feels no different from the brand new ones I have seen.

Yes. The German military version is the P8, the 9mm USP with modified safety/decocker.

WOW, this is the first time I heard a USP called Vintage

My first USP9 (top right) and USP45 (top left) were each bought new the week they were released. Both serial numbers are under 650. When I looked at the dates, it has been over two decades

While I don't usually care for the H&K USP series, I dig the look of the USP45 Elite, although it's probably just because the tapered look of the slide reminds me of the Walther PP.

I have a USP compact .40 and it is one heck of a fine pistol. Carries well, shoots well, even maintains easily.

I really like the USP45s because of their ability to shoot a wide range of ammunition without changing springs like other autoloaders.

Naturally you can fire 45ACP and 45ACP+P with out changes, but these well designed pistols can also fire 45SUPER with no changes.

That takes the 230 grain projectile from 850FPS+/- in standard pressure to 950FPS+/- in a +P loading to over 1100FPS in the 45SUPER loading. This almost doubles the muzzle energy and 14 rounds in the magazine

Plus it is still comfortable to shoot

Wait, they can handle .45 Super without any modifications? Does H&K actually have it rated for .45 Super or is it merely strong enough to handle the extra pressure without official manufacturer approval?

I like the USP45 Elite and have been interested in possibly getting a firearm rated for .45 Super, if nothing else then for the versatility of being able to take a full-size duty gun and load it up hot enough to drop a Grizzly if need be. So if the USP45 Elite is indeed rated for .45 Super and can also fire .45 ACP without any need to swap out the recoil spring, then I may need to save up and make the USP45 Elite my next major firearms purchase.

I bought my USP 45 in 1996. I love it! I added a Match Trigger kit from HK and it was a well spent $125 - reduced the trigger pull noticeably in double & single action. It's a keeper!

I made a trip to my LGS Saturday afternoon, scouting for a 1911, with the features I want, and in the price I've got budgeted. Happened to trip on a HK 45, a bit higher than I want to spend, but it just feels so good in the hand. Seeing as I love my P30, I've been seriously thinking about picking this up instead.

The USP is definitely my favorite combat pistol platform. I have like 11 or 12, I think. The duty models (Compact, full-size and Tactical) are great for practical defensive use, while the target-oriented models can keep up with the best precision pistols for range enjoyment.

Plus, they're dang good lookin'.

It looks like you bought your USP9 the first week they came out as well. Mine is just a bit over double your serial number

I am also a big fan of the Tactical. I sold my MK23 as I had a buddy that really, really wanted it and did not feel the big need for the quiet decocker

My Coyote Tactical makes a great host for the Osprey supressor

While not part of the USP family, my P2000SK chambered for 357SIG is way more accurate than a sub compact deserves to be

Of course, now I have to go home and photograph it

Tough call

1911s are what I grew up on. I own and shoot quite a few of them. I have hand built hundreds, perhaps more 1911s over the last 4 decades

In fact I am working on a Officer's Model chambered in 38 Super and set up for pocket carry. I give thanks to the good folks at Metalform for making magazines available for the project

I have a Coyote HK45 Tactical, but mostly just to have one. I prefer the larger grip and increased capacity of the USP family of autoloaders, but then I do have large hands

I'm actually just the type of nut who intentionally sought out a low serial number KD USP a couple years ago.

I don't have a full group shot but here are a few of the others I have:

Match, Elite and Expert 9mms...the Elite with the Merkle weight is one of my best shooting 9mms, period.

I have seen some USP 40 police trade ins online lately. I did not realize that many police departments issued HK pistols. While I admit that HKs are expensive, if I were a LEO I would hate the idea of having to turn in a gun with the quality of the USP for something else.

They traded for Glocks! Officers got their old pistols (I presume for a price). The officer who sold me his was not pleased with the transition. I was!

USPs are one of the only guns I don't mind owning in 40. They were designed around the caliber from the outset and handle it really well.

Mine was a police surplus model in really good condition that I think I got for like $400 OTD.
