A shop I don't go into that often had just put this out. It's a rare thing to find a gun in a pawn shop that has an extra mag much less the factory case, papers, etc. Since it was priced a good bit below the online average, and the owner knocked off another 60 bucks, I picked it up. The last one I saw retail about a year ago at a different shop was priced at $699 (or was it $799?) and probably sold for that knowing that shop. This one manufactured 2012. Only downside is the 10-round mags. I live in a free state, and it was made well past the AWB expiration date, so who knows how it ended up here. Seems like a solid piece.

Very nice find. Don't see many of those around.

The thing is, a quick search shows the best price on this gun, with 10-round mags at that, starting at $1059. One thousand fifty-nine bucks. You can easily pay $1,200 if you're so inclined. And used retail price at $700-800. I just don't get it.

Nice. I bought a USP40C at my local pawn shop a few years ago, for $529 with 4 mags. I used it for my CCW range training and it hides by my front door. I also take it, with the 10 round mags, when I travel to states that have magazine restrictions. 12 round mags are available for the 40, so I have a bunch of them.

My biggest complaint is the magazine release gives me a sore thumb when doing a lot of mag changes (like in the class). For ordinary shooting, it works fine.

Congratulations on the new addition to the Family

Being from the Deep South I am willing to bet that your state does not restrict how many rounds of ammunition it's Citizens carry in their firearms

I see that at least the spare magazine is a restricted capacity so I bet it did not even come with 2 full capacity magazine

If you go looking for extra magazines, it might interest you to know that the USP9f and USP40f magazines are exactly the same with the exception of the caliber marked on them and the witness holes in the back. The followers are identical and they work interchangeably.

It is often possible to fine 40 mags cheaper than the 9s. Also as a last resort a restricted capacity 40 magazine will hold more than 10 rounds of 9MM

You are correct, sir.

Per the box label, it left the factory with two 10-round mags.

Good to know. Thanks for that info.

The mystique of the USP in standard form has always escaped me. I know they are supposed to be reliable and tough as old boots, but I could say the same about a Ruger 95 for a lot less money. The USP's styling reminds me of the brutalist architecture of the 1960s. Still, I'm told it has a nicer grip than most Glocks, so it has that going for it.

I think that's one of the appeals, if you're of a particular mindset. It just looks like a fine piece of German hardware; no nonsense and clean lines.

It's not a perfect analogy since, among other things, he's Austrian, but I read a comment somewhere that the USP looks like what Arnold Schwarzenegger would look like if he were a gun.

I love my USPs. They are built like tanks and every one I've owned is well above average in terms of accuracy. Plenty of documented torture testing on them. They have gone up quite a bit in price as HK only makes them sporadically. You should be able to sell those 10 round mags easily enough. You can also install HK's jet funnel which will allow it accept proprietary 18 round mags (they aren't cheap, though).

In the long run might be better off holding on to the two original 10rd mags that are correct for your USP, if you want higher capacity purchase them if you fell you need them. From what you said OP you got a decent deal and can afford to purchase a couple high cap mags. Either way you are covered if you ever resell the USP, better to have too much and original than too little and not original.

Same thing goes here for the Jet Funnel mags.

The 40 caliber mags can be found cheaper than the 9s, but they work interchangeably

I use them all the time on my USP9SD. I need to do a photo of that one

During the pandemic one of the tactical online sellers had the 40 caliber Jet Funnel mags at $49.95.

The one thing I regret is that I only bought 4 of them. I should have stashed a few extras in the drawer

My thoughts exactly. If I'd bought it just gun and one 10-round mag (typical for pawn shops), I'd be happy to sell the 10-rounder and pick up some 15s, but since it's a gun with original case marked "2-10," I feel compelled to hang on to the original mags. I just ordered a couple 15s at what broke down to $41/each including shipping. Absolute best per mag price I could find. I don't think I'll be picking up many more if any.

I've owned several of the HK's over the years. Generally my USP's have all been compacts which are not really that much more compact than the full size. I still own a VP9, 45C, and P2000. The latter two with the LEM. I recently sold my Compact stainless 45 for $ 1250. The compact stainless 9 went for $ 1450. My SIL has the compact stainless 9 I gave him. I have told him not to tell my daughter its value. She would make him sell it.

It's more than just a solid piece, it's a tank!

The USP is a bomb-proof pistol that has been torture tested to oblivion and survived. They froze the the thing, baked it, shot a squib straight out the barrel, and more.

I got myself USP45 Elite last year and I absolutely love it.

In case you "need just one more mag", Joe's Pawn Shop in Alabama has this bad boy 30 rounder waiting for you:
HK USP - 9mm - 30rd Extended Magazine
Disregard where it says "backordered". I bought a Star mag from him today and it indicated the same and that's why I called the shop to find out. He had one in stock and I bought it.
