Recently on impulse I sold my 3" model 60 to fund a nickel model 19. I now have sellers remorse as that 3"er was about the most useful and fun pistol I owned. I'm looking for another one and have taken another look at the 5" models. Not as compact as the 3" but not heavy and still compactish (being a J frame). Anyway, the issue I see may be in finding a holster (off the shelf) for a gun with such limited production numbers. If I can't get reasonably priced leather I'd just as soon get another 3"er. Anyone have any recommendations?

That is an unusual combination. I think you'll have to go the custom route. There are several great holster makers that are here on the Forum. I have two of the Sourdough Pancake holsters from Simply Rugged. I like them- durable, comfortable, and affordable. Lots of folks on here like Lobo Gun Leather. The owner is a guy named Ray who posts here pretty regularly. I'm thinking of getting my next holster from him. Good luck and happy shooting!
I actually had, and traded, a 5" Model 60 along with a stock Hunter holster that fit it very well. I regret that I can't give you a model number for the holster, since it is gone. But the price was reasonable. The gun was actually quite fun to shoot, but more than a handful for full magnum loads. I traded for a Combat Masterpiece that better fit my fancy on that particular day. I can also vouch for Lobo Gunleather as wonderful pieces of work. I have 3 for other guns.

About a year ago I got my wife one of the new Ruger SP-101 4.2" .357s. Similar situation in that suitable holsters are almost nonexistent. I believe that Simply Rugged makes one but that is about all.
In the interim I ordered up a Fobus paddle holster (about $25) for the more common 2 and 3 inch SPs to see how it would work out. Obviously about 2" of the longer barrel protrudes, but it doesn't seem to be much of a problem under a coat and in and out of a vehicle. It also turned out to be quite comfortable and handy to the point that I ordered one for my Glock 19.
I have a M60 3" which I sometimes carry in a custom flap holster or a kydex made for a 2" barrel. The latter works ok.
These little small frame semi-target ("kit") guns are so darned capable that it's a shame that no one really caters to the leather for them.

Ray at Lobo Leather Lobo Gun Leather - Home has fixed me up with holsters for 2", 3", 4" and 6" S&W j-frame revolvers. I think there is a good chance he could put together a holster for a 5" model 60. I thought I might have a problem finding a holster for my model 35 because of the 6" bbl length; but Ray put together a nice lined holster for me. Relatively fast turnaround times, very fair prices, and easy to deal with.
