Holster for shield ???

My only objection to this holster is that the metal clips mark up your belt. After a while it looks like hell. If you don't mind that its a good holster.

I now use holsters with leather or plastic loops.

I'll agree with that....I'm not fond of the metal clips, and Gavin does offer belt loops instead. The newest holster he's making me is coming with additional leather loops to try. I can always get plastic clips, or just take them off the drawer full of holsters I don't use. I can't really complain...his holsters simply work, and I love the custom touches we can put on them.

My main goal for a holster is concealment. All of these holsters with clips that are outside, on top of the belt just don't conceal well. Metal clips, plastic clips, leather loops. All of them are quite visible and are clear sign of a gun. No good for me. The "J" clips, or "C" clips are less visible, and still hold things in place. I think I'll look around for holsters with those kinds of clips. Maybe the Remora, which has no clip, at all.

The majority of people are not looking to see if you are carrying a gun, let alone for clips on your belt. You could probably wear a small label in that same space that says "GUN" and still no one would notice.

If you tuck your shirt in, clips (or loops) on the outside of your belt may give it away if you do not have your shirt properly bloused to cover them *and* the person who is looking knows what they are looking at.

If that is still an issue, you could do some covering of the clips/loops with a cell phone, key clip or similar innovative cover materials.

If you need deeper concealment than this, then yes you probably need deeper concealment than a clip or loop based holster provides when you tuck in your shirt.

When I run in to those cases, that is when I fall back to my smartcarry crotch holster. A little slower to access and increases difficulty using a busy public restroom until your get your "system" figured out, but it probably does not get much better than that for concealment if that is your number one concern.

I'm fooling around with a few designed for IWB Hybrids to bring to market, but I have yet to find a suitable alternative to the metal clips that chew up belts sooner or later.

Looking like I will be going for soft loops at this point.

I'm a holster maker and... no.

Kydex does not just magically get molded to the shape of a gun in each choice of color, cant, side carried etc etc, then cut and shaped, drilled, put together, the fit checked.

Alien Gear is a big name so 7 weeks + seems pretty excessive. I think most around four. I'm at two but I'm a small shop and mainly go off word of mouth.

Ian is not going to "toot his own horn", so i'll do it for him. search "Overwatch Holsters", and find the thread reviewing the Treadstone. then, do yourself a favor and get one. I've had mine for a couple of months, and absolutely love it. couldn't ask for anything more. great price, attention to detail, fits the Shield perfectly, and DISAPPEARS inside the waistband. check it out.

When I don't pocket carry my 40 Shield in a DeSantis pocket holster, I carry it in a Ed Hume JIT OWB belt slide holster. It works well for me & will also work with my 40C. It was very reasonable on Amazon; something like $26.00 shipped. I just don't care for IWB.

This is my newest addition from Gavin at firearmholster.com

Double stitched with two shades of grey. He also made me a set of matching belt loops at no charge, but haven't put them on yet. It's my fourth from Gavin....they ROCK! Comfortable...you'll forget it's there. Neoprene in between the leather and fleece to keep moisture off the gun.

Ah, I'm saving my penny's for Vendor status on this forum... I want to advertise here, and it's one of three forums I get the most out of and want to support.

I will toot my own horn a little though... I'm very proud of my Shield holsters in particular.

Holster for Sheild

My search for a holster for my new Shield led me to Wright's Leather. The Cobra is a hybrid holster that works IWB or OWB. You can also use metal clips to make it tuckable. The holster is meant to be worn at 4 to 5 o'clock. Wait time was 8 to 10 weeks. Edited for spelling

Two Suggestions

At the hunt club while bow hunting I always owb carry.

For EDC which will be most of the time I will need to IWB.
Unless you're packing eight or nine hours every day and not running and jumping there's always the Sticky. I have a Remora
and a Sticky. Much prefer the Sticky for a few bucks. For some bucks and IWB all day comfort consider the N82 Tactical.
These two and maybe fifty more selections are available on the net.
Comfort is essential for me.

Been using a FoxX Hybird for a couple of weeks and really liking it.

I've historically shunned hybirds and holsters with two clips in general. I was about to sell this one and decided to give it one more try. After making a few adjustments, I wore it around the house and barely realized I had a gun on my hip. Last week, I wore it on a 7 hour drive from Wisconsin to Michigan and was amazed at how comfortable it was.
